Truck Tires for 1-Ton Towing Everyday GMC 3500

ok so bought a new 2021 GMC AT4 3500HD came with crappy Good Year Wrangler tires that at 80psi they squat with my 13K Montana. I had Cooper ATX's on my previous 2016 F350 that was stolen. few months ago, and prior to those I had the Michelin AT 2's which were all great tires however my local dealer said they went up in price.

I am looking to go from LT275/65/20 to LT295/65/20 BASICALLY 1/2" Wider and 1" taller, which is not a big issue also the 275's support 3750lbs per tire and the 295's support 4080lbs per tire.

Anyone find a really good tire for towing, and regular road driving, I do not go off-road, but I need a tire that holds up to towing, and lasts at least 50K, the Michelin's I got 79K out of, so just wondering what other tires folks are running, before I decide to replace these. Neither the Cooper or Michelin come in 295 so I am looking at BFG K02's and General Grabber X3's, I do not want to go with the Cooper SST Pro only bc they are a mud tire and no warranty, and I never go off-road where I would need a tire like this?

Hi,

I have also great experiences with the Cooper's.
The Cooper Discoverer ATX comes also in LT285/65R20 where you would get 3860. This is more load capacity.
LT295/60R20 is also available with 3750 which is a little more as well.

Before I was running on the Cooper I had very good experiences with the Continental TerrainContact A/T but they end at LT285/60R20 with 3640.

Wit the BFG I had bad experiences. The start to get loud around 18K Miles and got really loud after 20K Miles.

just my 2cts
Mike

I had the GoodYear Duratrac tires, but they were replaced last year under a recall with the Wrangler AT with Kevlar sidewalls. So far, I have about 25,000 miles on them with very little wear. They seem to be a much better tire than I had given them credit for. BTW, there are 2 different Wrangler tires in the GoodYear lineup. If you get them, make sure you get the All Terrain Adventure with Kevlar. Rated 60,000 miles. They are more expensive but are a much better tire overall.

I am running the new Toyo Open Country A/T3's, they are super quiet, have a load rating of E and a weight rating of 4,080 lbs. The size on my 2020 is 295/65R20. I really like them.

Unfortunately my 2021 GMC AT4 with 20” wheels came with the crappy Wrangler Trail-runner AT tires which are the worst of all the Wrangler brands. Great for everyday as they are smooth but not when towing my 14K fifth wheel, so will replace them and sell them locally they have no miles on them

I love the Coopers as I had the AT3 X3 on my F350 but I do not like the white lettering prefer the all BSW, so if I went with the SST Pro they come in BSW no RWL 🤗

All i can say is, for the past 50 years or so, every time I strayed from Michelin, I've been disappointed.

I have the ATs, they're unidirectional, so had them mounted lettering inside. Can't even see the white after a couple of months.

I remember those days cleaning whitewalls. SOS pads worked pretty good too. Westley's Bleeche-Wite is another product I used to keep those tires clean.

You can also use Oxiclean and a small scrub brush worked well on my Coopers and Michelin’s. I really didn’t want the white letters but if you go Cooper Discovery X tires your stuck with white letters, I am leaning towards going with the Yokohama Geolandar XT All Terrain Tires, I like the MT but since I don’t go off-road it would be a waste I need something that rides nice and will wear evenly and hold up to towing a Fifth wheel with my 2021 GMC 3500HD AT4

I've been running the BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires on my F-350 for years and have been extremely happy. Ran them on my Chevy 2500HD before that too. Never had a problem. Great wear and good traction in the Minnesota winters.

Truck Tires

I just replace my GMC 2014 Sierra Denali HD 3500 with Sailun truck tires.
Love em!!! The dealer who installed (owner of the dealership) said he wouldn't run anything else on his 2005 GMC Sierra HD 3500 as well!!

Our 3500 came with Michelin's, 35,000 miles and still look new.

KO2s are not for me

I have the opposite experience with my KO2 tires. They started cupping at 10K miles (suspension is AOK) and they are wearing so quickly at 25K miles. I honestly can't wait until I replace them. Although I am not sure with what, I have always had great experiences with Michelin, regardless the cost. When I had a blowout on my 2014 F350DRW Rugged Trail T/A front tire while towing the 18Klb Montana, the damage caused by the blowout more than exceeded the differential cost of the Michelins. I was extremely glad that we were in the middle of nowhere Wyoming when the blowout occurred so I did not take out any other vehicles as the rig swerved into the oncoming traffic lane while spewing rubber and steel all over the road.

BF Goodrich tires have been made by Michelin since 1988. I have always assumed Michelin treated it as a premium line like their own named tires. I'm hoping your case is one of the rare instances that can happen to any tire and not a systemic issue.

I've run dozens of different BF Goodrich tires over the years and the only bad wear I had was 35" Mud T/A tires on my Suburban that I would drive like a sports car, so clearly a user issue. Have had plenty of other brands wear poorly too from normal driving.
