1st Montana

Hello
We just traded our pull camper to a 5th wheel Montana. So far we love it. I was a little worried about pulling it, however It really pulls better than our old camper. I know the Montana is only 4 ft bigger than our old one. I guess it’s height is just intimidating. The wife picked the 3791RD. Another thing is the looks we get now pulling into the campgrounds. Although we seem to be giving a lot of tours now. Go big or go home.....

Congratulations. Yeah once you go from a regular pull trailer to a 5th wheel there is no turning back.....it just tows so much nicer. We love ours. Yeah the height of these things is awesome. So much room. We have a 2019 3560RL.

Welcome to the Forum and Congrats on the new unit. Youi have found the perfect place to find out about your new unit. Don't be afraid to ask questions-- There is no such thing as a "dumb question" because you need an answer and the members here on the Forum are experts on the Montana because they actually own one. It may not be the same model as yours but they are basically the same in makeup, just different in size and interiors. Again, congrats on the new Monte and hope to see you down the road sometime.

Congrats and safe travels! Check your State requirements for any endorsements. Sales rep do not inform of state Laws. In NY you need a endorsement on your license for any RV and tow vehicle combined weight over 26,000 lbs or 40' + in length. A road test and $10. gets you legal. RV parky app provides height warnings. Again enjoy!!

Same here, just went to a Montana Legacy 3120 since it's just me and the dog. Love it. Love the looks. Feel like I'm waving a Ferrari in their faces As a widow, when I started looking, I was intimidated by the height / size but realized I'm only 2 feet higher than I was. Towing it was the best. My F250 has a much smoother ride as the trailer seems to do its thing behind me. I had to remind myself it was there. I'll never go back to a bumper tow trailer.

NY doesn't require the R endorsement for length, just over 26,000. "The requirement for an "R" endorsement (Class D or Class E license) to operate a recreational vehicle with a GVWR of 26,001 lbs. or more remains in effect." From https://dmv.ny.gov/commercial-driver...lass-c-license and here https://dmv.ny.gov/driver-license/dr...triction-codes But don't try asking the DMV or a trooper when you need it. I had to go to one of the troopers who checks tractor trailers.

It's also 40+'

https://dmv.ny.gov/about-dmv/chapter-1-driver-licenses

Personal Use Vehicle (Rental, Recreational Vehicle) or “R” endorsement - The Personal Use Vehicle “R” endorsement is required for operation of recreational and/or rental vehicles used to transport personal household goods when the vehicle is over 26,000 pounds (11,794 kg.) GVWR and/or forty (40) feet in length. This endorsement is available to Class D and E license drivers.

To get an “R” endorsement: Submit a completed Application for Driver License or ID Card (MV-44) to a state or county motor vehicle office; pay a permit fee, which is valid for a maximum of two road tests; and pass a road test in the size and type of vehicle you will drive. No written test is required. For the road test, a driver who is at least 21 years old, with a license valid for the vehicle you will drive during the test, must accompany you. (e.g., a driver license with an “R” endorsement or the correct Commercial Driver License). The road test will take approximately 15 minutes and will include turns, intersections and backing the vehicle to the curb. When you pass the road test, you must go to a motor vehicle office and pay the required fee to complete the license amendment process.

I guess NYS's website doesn't know when an R endorsement is required since the two links I posted make no mention of length just weight. Neither did the CDL enforcement trooper I spoke with. Not too surprising. It is NY.

NY is the state of confusion, DMV personnel were not all on same page either.
