Winegard Antenna Not Working - Help

Hi I just bought a 2018 fifth wheel Montana. We have winegard for an antenna but it’s not working. The TV keeps saying there’s no signal, I’ve tried in doing the coax wires and hooking it back up but to no avail it’s still not working. Do you have any suggestions? We had a King antenna with our last RV and had no no problem. Thanks Tammy

We need to know a few things. First, what Winegard antenna and what reciever do you have? Second, do you have key TV?

The 2018 brochure says the Rayzar Z-1 antenna was installed. Don't know if the antenna booster was still used in these rigs, but if it is used, maybe the booster hasn't been turned on.

My 2018 model has Winegard Rayzor and antenna booster (booster on/off button located behind bedroom TV where the TV plugs in) There is a green LED that comes on if the antenna booster is turned on. It has all worked fine for me.

Tammy - click on the “user CP” button upper left of this page and edit your signature to show what model you have. It will get better answers when these folks know your specific model.

We had the dealer install a Winegard Traveler Slimline SWM3 Direct tv antenna with DIRECTV® HD programming directly connected to the tv on 2 fifth wheel trailers. I have also used a portable King Quest DIRECTV® SD programming antenna that I had to connect up the tv myself. The latter antenna is now used on our boat.

That antenna has an amplifier that needs to be turned on. As for where it's at, that's another question. Please let us know the model of your camper.

Tammy, have you tried going to the TV menu, selecting "antenna" or "off air" and scanning for OTA signal ? Are you certain you are in an area that is close enough to "local" channels ... if so, are you sure you have the antenna pointed in the proper direction?

Here is another test you can perform for $10 to determine if it is the Rayzor or the TV. If you are sure you have the TV set up for antenna (In the menu selections) - you could purchase a cheap digital antenna at walmart like the one in the pic below, hook it up, put the antenna on or near a window and run scan to see if it finds any stations. Even if it finds one station then you know your TV is OK and the problem is in the Rayzor antenna.

Those walmart antennas are garbage ( in my opinion) so dont expect it to pick up dozens of stations.

We had a different antenna on our other 5th wheel that we traded for this one on the same lot that we’re in now
The other antenna was a King and we picked up 20 channels but with this winegard antenna it’s saying no signal

Tammy, it sounds as if you verified the booster is on (light is on), you have gone into the TV and scanned for channels, and made sure all connections from the roof to the TV. I guess the next step is to check the cables. A cable tester is a relatively cheap fix. I agree with Mike, if you could connect an antenna direct to your TV, you could check things out to rule out other issues. We had an issue with our old camper in Florida. We ended up getting a boosted Walmart antenna and using it while in that site. Good luck and keep us posted.

If it is the batwing antenna, the only one I'm familiar with. Run a coax direct from amplifier switch to TV to eliminate internal wiring and splitters. The amplifier is not the switch with the light. The amplifier is actually in the antenna head. I've seen them go bad.

1. Make sure the green LED is on on the amplifier
2. Check to make sure the TV INPUT is set to antenna or TV
3. Navigate to the TV menu and select auto channel scan
4. If it still has no channels then try the cheap external antenna mentioned above
5. Try the same steps on other TVs

If you have an iPhone, there is a free app in the iPhone store that tracks tv signals and indicates the direction the stations are broadcasting from and the strength of the signal. I use it all the time when I’m having signal issues. The no signal issue may be corrected in your tv menu as others have posted. You need to turn off your booster (green button) when hooked up to cable, change to “cable tv” in your menu and run a scan. I have the same antenna as you. Make sure all your cables are tight, go to menu and make sure you are on your antenna, run a channel scan and see what happens.

This is what we found after we bought our used 5er , the coax cable wasn't connected to the antenna or to the booster. I guess the previous owner watched DVD's or didn't watch anything. Hope this gives you more places to check if you haven't already solved the issue .
