Scare Lights

I would like to separate the two "scare" lights by wiring to two separate switches on my Monty 3575 Big Sky so I can use the "entry" side light as a patio light without blinding neighbors on the other side. Has anyone else thought of this and looked into wiring to see if the lights are wired together or independently? Thanks for any info.

Bruce this is an idea that I have wondered many a time. You would think that Keystone engineers would think of this too. I have never tried it, but if you figure it out, please post to the forum.

This is on my Spring "To Do" list also. I think the wires run from the switch to the curbside light then over to the otherside. I would figure this to be the way to use the least amount of wire.

Glen & Judy, The big outdoor flood lights are often referred to by some of us as "scare lights".

I would love to do this also. I would like to have the lights on seperate switches too. Maybe put the switch for the off door side in the bedroom for when you hear things at night out there. If anyone figures it out please let all of us know.

I don't understand why Montna's don't have two switches for the scare lights. I had a 2003 Cougar that had the scare lights of different switches. If they do it on a lower end model I don't know why they don't do it on the Montana line.

You could probably test this by disconnecting the off-door side scare light and see if the other one still works. If it does, you could then wirenut each wire on the off-side light and if you can figure out how to run wires to a second switch and to power you'd be set. I suspect that will be the toughtest part. If you or anyone else does this I hope you'll post the specifics for the rest of us.

I also believe I only need a light on one side.
Until someone figures out where best to add a switch
How about the simple method?
remove the bulb from the slide side
and store it. You can always put it in if you think you
want it back?

You made me curious, so i pulled the wall switch off yesterday while showing my neighbor how to change out his thermostat. Any way both lights on mine are wire together at the switch, so all you have to do is get another rocker switch and separate them and you have tow wall switches for each scare light. Dealer should have an exact match if you want the switches to look the same if not any Radio Shack or Lowe's would have a rocker switch that will work. Good luck

Broome:

That's what I suspected, but hadn't been able to check it out. Thanks for doing the "research". I have a friend who is an electrician, so this is one of our projects, after the fiver gets out of the shop to fix the slide hydraulics.

Well, guys and gals, Seems that you might need to check each unit, Al pulled the cover off our scare lights switch, and ours is NOT wired where we can pull wires, seperate and make 2 switches. We only have one wire in and one wire out, my electrician tells me, NO go, the single wire out must run to one scare light or to a "Y" at some place back in the guts of the Montana, and then off to the other side of the rig.

While we are talking scare lights, one of ours is burnt out, does anyone happen to know what the replacement number is for those???

How do you get the switch open? I tried to pull on the cover assuming it was a push on and stopped because it looked like it wasn't coming. I didn't want to break it. I didn't see any screwes but that could be because my eyes aren't as good as they used to be.

Al says "to take the cover off, just pull it off, it comes off, there are 4 screws under there, to take the switch assembly out."

Good luck

Just pulled the switch on ours. One set of wires to the scare light switch. I pulled the wires out of the box as far as I could and don't see a splice to a second set of wires anywhere.

Carol,
I recently replaced one of those scare light bulbs...it was #1295 at a Carquest Auto Parts store. Price was $2.61
Have a good day!
