We have a Pull Rite Super Glide hitch on our F350 Crew Cab short bed and have never had a problem. They are spendy but worth it even if it saves you once.

We too have a 321 HC, I would support the folks with shortbeds plus Andersen Hitch (essentially a goose neck connection elevated and centered back enough in bed to prevent your issue). We pull with a 2018 2500 Turbo Cummins Bighorn Ram 4x4 SRW. Have needed 4x4 twice which has made it worthwhile. Sorry about your damage and good luck on your search. Just finished cross country move with Montana 321 HC and was a breeze to pull vs our old 5th wheel and enjoyed almost 3 mos. steady use til found new home.

Maybe consider using an automatic sliding hitch. I have a similar vehicle and trailer. I use Pullrite SuperGlide automatic slider. I have had zero issues with the hitch. It is pricey, but I don’t worry about trailer/cab interference. Just keep the sliding rails lubed with an occasional shot of WD-40.

Demco Autoslide

We pull our 5er with a Ford F-250 Superduty Crewcab, I believe the bed is 6ft 3 inches. We went with a Demco Autoslide Hijacker, 18,000 lbs. We have been very pleased with it. The reason we chose this model is we saw our neighbor turn his 5th wheel using his rear window for leverage. Pow,

I feel that way about a long bed. Yes, in my mind, it (the extra length) makes ALL the difference. For 6 years now, I've proved it makes no difference, EXCEPT for the difference in looks. I pulled a full size Montana and and arrived every single place I set out to arrive, in one piece, with my back window and cab intact and backed in right next to the 8'ft bed pickups. Big difference though, I can park the SB Ram inside the garage all year! I a long bed would have to live outside in the sun and snow.

I have the CCSB. Went from a Pullrite Slider on 2500, to an Andersen on the 3500. Live in a small cul-de-sac and make the U turn without any problems. My wife or myself watch tight turns buts our 5er turns in behind the cab. Been great so far.

I'm not in any way trying to beat anybody up on this issue. We all have our opinions. That's why America is a great place to live.

I have the ability to park my truck in my 40x42 pole building next to the camper, but choose not to most of the time simply because it gets in the way of doing anything else in that bay. If I had it to do over, I would have made it another bay wider, like 60x42

HHMMmm ~~~ Just a year ahead of you. Wifey wanted the 3761FL, A 2019, so I ordered a 2019 F350 dually. Very happy with both. We use our 5er about 6 months of the year and the dually is my DD.

On the 3/4 ton subject~~~ My neighbor pulls his Montana with a 2017 F250XLT. Scaled he is only 3100# over Weight. Not worth bothering looking at payload.

I have a CC long bed truck. The last one was a CC SB which was used to tow a 5er as well. I could not make the back in 90 plus degree turn into our driveway without pulling well into the cul-de -ac island with a 12 foot wide road in the front of our house. The driveway does not come off the rod perpendiculer either which adds 10-15 degrees to my turn. A tree blocks the blindside. The long bed makes that 90+ degree turn with ease, though the front wheels do go on the island. No big deal as I do the maintenance on that island since my town wont.


It is a much smoother ride with and without the 5er hooked on



It is a PITA in a parking lot at 24 feet long, 173" wheel base. I do not fit in any 'normal' parking space. I DO NOT CARE!!. It gives me a bit of exercise to walk from the back 40. It fits in my garage with 4" at each end to spare It does irritate me if it's raining but have learned to carry an umbrella for my long walk.


This is my 4th of 8 with a long bed ('76, '79, '92, '11 sords). Did I say I prefer a LB? And Fords?


You own/drive what works for you. If a SB does the job, great - just be aware of that tight turn and proximity to that expensive back window and cab corner repairs - or use a slider hitch

I had the same problem with my short bed. I only had a problem when I had to back it in my driveway. Did not break a rear window but it was close. I went to a B&W Slider hitch and now I have plenty of room. It was worth the extra expense.

I had the sb ram.unfortunatly the truck and trailer met. 200 over gvwr..went to a longbed dually, aisin,4:10, auto level Longhorn 4x4.. Dont think about weight now..took 2 years to find this truck...DEALERS JUST DONT STOCK THEM..

It worked out well.. DEALER gave me full trade in on my ram and the dually I bought had 1200 miles. I got it for 62000 when MSRP was 78000.. 16000 off..dave smith didn't even have a truck that had this equipment. Towbin, mcpeak, non.. so I got lucky..

We have pull a 2018 3660 using a Ford F350 short-bed with a PullRite SuperGlide hitch. Automatically slides back as the truck turns. Love it!

If you have a "slider" hitch and you are backing a 14,000# 5er into a spot at a 75+degree angle UPHILL how does that slider push that big old trailer back 14" UPHILL? Not getting smart with anyone here, just asking. I have a long bed and no slider hitch so I really have no idea how that would work.

I have no problem backing into a driveway with a 16" rise off a residential street.

Have not tried it (but I will just to see ), but I think I can maneuver our rig CCLB to 110 Degrees or so WITH THE TAIL GATE DOWN. I know I can walk behind the truck from side to side with it down. I can also open the front compartment doors fully with the gate down.

I've had long bed, crew cab F350's since 2000. All have been daily drivers. In 2014, I went to F450 DRW long bed, crew cabs. Again, daily driver. I never have an issue with driving or parking. Most of it is in people's heads. They "think" the truck is too big. The wheel wells are not wider than the mirrors. My observation is that I can easily get the truck between the lines. Better than most people in much smaller vehicles can.

If you can't drive and park a long bed truck as a daily driver, you probably don't need to be towing a trailer anyway.
