More weight information
Does anyone know for sure what the GEl coat and the dual pane windows weigh on the 3400.We are not concerned about the towing ability of the Tv.It is plenty big enough However the Carrying capicity of the 3400 is LISTED as 2325lbs...So after adding the 2nd A/C, gel coat and Dual pane windows..how much do you have left????
So I found a post that said the Gel coat adds 600lbs we are now down to 1725lbs.

Rich they say gel coat weighs 600 libs but I doubt that. Friend of mine has one just like mine but without gel coat his weight sticker inside the sink door states the same as mine with gel coat, so go figure.

I found that those stickers don't mean much.It is a magic weight from some magic place.

you are more than likely correct like I said his weight was number for number as mine and he did not have as many options added as I did.

I think the listed weight is without extras or add-ons such as gel-coat, second A/C etc.

Rich I got out my dometic dealer book the duo therm penguin 13,500 btu weights 99 pounds and 15,000 is 104 the inside air distribution box with controls another 8-10 pounds, I hope this helps you and Helen and I also hope your having a great time at the show. OH looks like you will have to leave the parrot home and you will be OK weight wise. Hope these weight numbers help you. I am still waiting for an INVIT for coffee in your 3400 living room. ha ha later John H (aka Hemlockusa)

The hi-gloss adds 600 lbs to the entire coach. The weights listed in the cabinet is a standard sticker they put on each model with basic options. They do not weight any additional options or features of your specific coach.

My dealer told me the extra dual pane windows would add about six hundred pounds to the coach. A very heavy addition. Good luck on your ordering.

Does that seem right to you, Walter??? Maybe because of the back picture window? I hope your dealer was off on that. I know it may also depend (I think) on which model he is talking about?
*On Edit~ Just had a thought... maybe he was talking about the TOTAL weight of the glass on the rig, not the ADDITIONAL weight? Hope so... It would make me feel a little more comfortable.

Houston we have a problem...The carrying Capacity of the 06 3400 as listed on the Keystone web site is 2325 and IMHO that figure is suspect and what have the new upgrade done to that figure..anyhow using the numbers we have Gel coat add 600lbs
Dual pane windows add 600 lbs 2nd 13.5 add 100lbs Total 1300 lbs subtract fron the carrying capacity of 2325 (maybe) and that leaves 1025 lbs.. That's not much. We WOULD have to leave the bird home ( 1 lb) and a lot of other stuff.1000 lbs of personal stuff and other camping stuff is nothing at all. No wonder we see so many reports of tire wear problems.
This seems to me to a big BIG safety problem... comments.....

What Montana Sky said is the same I was told by a Keystone exec at the Tampa show last year. The weight sticker includes only "standard options" which he said means those things most rigs have on them. I suspect there's another reason, too, but that's another topic.
As for Kansas in the Great Lakes Region, that is up to the people organizing the rally. However, it really doesn't matter. Anyone can attend any rally without regard for what part of the country they are from. That's how it was explained to me, anyhow.

In addition add the washer dryer, a couple of full propane tanks and a battery or two
This seems to me to a big BIG safety problem... does this concern any one but ME.....
Oh..Oh..how about the slide toppers..looks like you got all the goodies you would have to haul around a empty camper.. We are doing some serious number crunching here...
And the fireplace...
The bird is going to have to do some heavy duty flapping..

RICH - Don't plan on packing all the grocery's you'll need for the trip at home. There is a Super Wally WOrld any where (just about) you end up. Send Helen out to get the grocery's while you and the bird relax from the long trip... Sure looks like your not going to be able to pack your bowling ball and golf clubs though..
Later John H

Don't know if this is true but we have been told that average personal effects for two people including household items is around a 1000 pounds.

Seriously, this is a GREAT question/statement awaiting a response/etc, Dusty. I, and others will be very interested in comments on this.

I would say 1000lbs is a low figure. Our TT weighed in , (In round numbers) at 5600 empty(from a old weight slip when we bought it) last weight slip I can find for it from about two years ago is 7200lbs.that would be 1600lbs.With dual panes, gel coat and 2nd A/C on the 3400 we would be very over loaded with that stuff aboard. From looking at the spec sheet on the Montana models I would venture to say there are a lot of over loaded Montana's out there????

Rich: One way of reducing the weight of your rig is to have the bird flap it's wings! This is just like jumping up as an elevator is going up to make the elevator go up faster!

How do people go with the gel coat, dual windows, generator, upgraded furniture, 2nd A/C, etc - and plan on putting anything else in the Monty? And another thing I just thought of... how much weight are four slide awnings, with all the hardware?
People do this, I know. How do they get away with that? And of course, they sometimes go down the road with at least a minimal amount of water (1/3 full sometimes, I've heard) in their tanks.
Even better question: How do dealers get away with not warning buyers of this problem? If they let someone go off their lot like this and something happens... I hear the words, "LAW SUIT". They know better. Maybe they are covered if the buyer goes off the lot with at least 1 lb left of CC? If in the minus column, maybe they are liable then? I don't know.
I have never heard of any problems on the road caused by an overweight CC problem, though. This has to be occurring... especially by non-MOCers who only are getting their education from the selling dealer.
