The washer does go into the gray tank. People are warned to only use the washer on a sewer hookup to CYA of the washer installer.
All washers are not created equal. Some of the stackers are water hogs. We can do two loads with the LG front loader combo and not fill the gray tank.
By the way, it's possible to back up the bathroom sink and not have water in the tub. If the tank is so full it covers the vent, an air lock can form and the bathroom sink holds water, even though the tub is lower then it is.

On the 3670RL the gally pull switch is outside of the compartment, right under the kitchen sink.
The grey and black are in the compartment. Therefore the grey is only for the sink and tub.

On the 3685FL, the washer drain does not go directly into the gray tank, as posted by 'Bill n Pat'. It sounds like this is unique to the 3685FL. You can look underneath it and see the line coming from the washer. It T's directly into the main dumpline after the gray valve. It is intended to be fed to a sewer hook-up. If you are not connected to a sewer, you have to rely on the seal of the cap to let any leak out.

I looked under mine and you are correct the line go's straight to the dump line, so after reading other posts about opening the cap end and getting #$%& all over you the remady was another shut off at the end and I have bought one the other day for that reason, but now it will work well when I get a washer also. Great info thanks

I just read most of this thread, and didn’t see mention of one possible design consideration that might explain the reason for the two tanks. (By the way, this is all theory since I don’t take delivery of my 3400 until the 23rd of July.) With the tub/shower and sink being in the front (on everything except the FL models) those drains are higher than the kitchen sink. If you filled the grey tank until the tub had standing water, AND there was only one gray tank, OR the two (gray and galley) were connected, the tub would drain into the galley tank until it was full. Then, the overflow would be into the kitchen sink – if you were lucky; and into the living area if you weren’t lucky. Having two separate tanks prevents this. This may also explain the different plumbing schemes. Since I still don’t have mine to look at, I can’t verify this thought. Anybody else?
