Attaching Emergency Brake Breakaway Cable
How do you all attach the emergency brake cable to your rig or hitch? I pull a cotter pin on the plate the king pin goes in to for the front to back swivel and reinsert the cotter pin
Appreciate your input as always! !

I put the loop on the hitch release handle. Been doing that for 15 years and no problems. I have a Reese 16k hitch.

I use the hitch handle also. I have had a problem twice. Turning a really tight corner (slider hitch). Wire catches on hitch base bolt/pin and pulled the brake cable when straighening out!! Hard to pull in that case!! One of the times was on a 4 lane highway not too busy - thank goodness. Stopped me with the Montana cross ways closing 2 lanes of traffic. Now I am fast at popping the pull pin back in and moving again.

Loop on hitch handle also with a loop in it to take up some of the slack. Been thinking about getting one of those springy thingy cables (technical term) to keep it from sagging down to the bed floor.

Loop on hitch handle here also. I have been meaning to support the cable to prevent unintended braking by using the late Glenn Adams method. I need to follow up on this as I have already experienced on unintentional braking episode due to wooden blocks in the truck bed catching the cable. Glenn's fix was to use a suction cup hook on the underside of the front cap the keep the cable out of harms way.

I like that suction cup idea. I think I even have a spare one somewhere in the trailer.

I made a cable extension that goes to the drivers side cargo tie down in the bed. The cable goes over the top of the hitch handle.
The slack caught several time and pulled the pin but luckily never in any dangerous place.
I got two long light screen door springs and used those to keep the slack up and out of the way using Tyraps to hold the spring and cable together.

I use one of these and hook the carabiner to a hole in my hitch. http://www.campingworld.com/shopping...6-length/57846
Works great and doesn't get tangled or inadvertently actuate. Wherever the hitch moves (I have a Pullrite Superglide), the breakaway cable moves with it. Simple, effective. I use the 6 foot length.

Put a clip on mine and hook it to the cable connector on my Butches Solution. Also shielded it in tubing so it can't snag on any small our tight places.

I have a lock on my hitch handle of my Curt to insure nobody can pull it when I'm stopped somewhere. I put the loop on the end of the cable through the lock. I think I'm going to try the idea of using the suction cup also.

Put the loop on the padlock in the release handle and have a clear tube over the cable to help keep from snagging.

I use to put it on the hitch handle but no more! A Canadian friend I met in AZ said in Canada it is not legal to hook it on the hitch, it must be attached to the bed of the truck. The reasoning was if the hitch connection failed the cable may not engage. I now hook mine onto my B&W gooseneck safety cable ubolts in the bed.

I also put my cable on the Hitch handle, Have a new B and W 20K Hitch and seems to work well. I also make sure I do not carry anything on the left side of bed that the cable might snag on.

Likec many of you I use the pull handle on my Reese. I put one of those plastic wire ties around the left rear leg and pull it just tight enough to slip loop of cable thru it. I did this after having get caught under leg of hitch going around corner and bringing me to a stop. This has worked every time as long as I remember to insert cable loop thru plastic tie.
