Taking the Monte in after the first of the year for some upgrades. Having a roof mounted satellite dish installed & upgrading the TV's to flat screens. Seems like most of the folks I have seen do this subscribe to Dish because they allow you to only pay when you use it. Any advice on which provider to consider would be appreciated. TIA.

I've always had Dish. No complaints except they cut off service after a while for inactivity. Then you haft to call or go online which works OK if if you have cell service. There are places I go that don't have service so I haft to be sure the dish is working before I get there.

We have been happy with Direct since 2010. Both require you to call and have them change your equipment location when you are over 4-500 miles from your permanent location, if you want to get all of your channels.Depending on how savvy the tech support person is, can sometimes be challenging to convince them to do it.

Directv for several years. We take a portable sat dish and a couple of receivers from the S&B with us when we are on the road.

If you get out of your local channel spot beam you do have to call directv and have them change your installation address. We never had a problem with them doing it as long as you do not mention RV or Mobile.

Have has Dish for 15 years.........never had a problem......I use a dish on a tripod.

Directv for us since 2001. Have it at home. Pull receivers out of the house and place in the fiver when traveling.

We have been happy with dish. We have been told by Dish that if we use the system at least once every month it would cut down on the times that we have to call to have them reset the receivers. We are only campers and not full timers so this has worked well for us. Once I started doing this I have not had to call. It also seems like the dish satellite dish is smaller than Direct TV's. Probably boils down to your personal preference. If you watch Camping Worlds adds you will see that they run a special on purchasing your system and also on installation. I know it saved us some money. Make sure that you are satisfied with their idea on how and where to mount the complete system.

Been with Dish for more than 5 years now using a Traveler roof mounted dish. Wouldn't change.

We have had Dish at home for 20(?) years. And Dish in the RV for 8 years. Never a problem. Had it as a $7/mo adder to our home account for 3 years. But our daughter moved back in with us and when we traveled outside our home area and changed the locals to the nearest city, it would disrupt the locals at home. DD didn't like that. So I changed th RV to the Dish pay as you go plan and only pay for 2-3 months per year. Now every one is happy.

Roof mount is fine unless you frequently stay in areas with lots of trees. I use a Tailgater and often have to stretch out my 50' cable to find s "hole" thru the trees.

Ten years experience with satellite TV and Montana's, would never roof mount my dish, I have seen many people at various campgrounds get a tree right in the critical angle, all I had do is move my dish one way or another. Just my opinion.

Direct TV for us on a tripod. We just take the receiver out of the stick house. We seasonal camp at the lakes where a roof mount is pretty useless due to trees. With a tripod ... we can move the dish around to get a signal.

Anyone have the Winegard Pathway X2 dish? Seems pretty good and inexpensive. The Pathway X1 is about the same, but only gets west coast satellites. Comments appreciated.

We just switched to Dish because when Direct went to the swim system they didn’t have anyone with any knowledge of the electronics involved and when they installed the receiver that would work with our Winegard carryout the placement of that receiver behind the power insertion brick they use would burnout the power supply in the second receiver and it wouldn’t work with the carryout any longer. When I finally was unable to reach anyone with direct that knew there was supposed to be DC on the coax at the antenna we changed.

The Dish installer that came to the house pointed out why the receivers were continually loosing their ability to power the carryout.

Sense then we have experienced a failure of the Carryout and purchased the G2+. This unit works well as long as it is on the provided 25ft coax. If you go longer their power insertion box doesn’t have enough power to overcome the resistance in the longer coax.

The only complaint I have is Dish will not provide you with your local stations once you are out of your viewing area and direct will.

I have the Dish tailgater. It's cheap, less than $400 works great and is easy to set up. Cut it and the TV on choose your state hit the scan button go set down and watch TV in about 10 minutes.

Dish with Tailgater for 5 years. 1st Tailgater had gear issue and had to be sent back for a swap of refurbished unit...no problems for 3 years now.

Direct TV will give you your home town locals anywhere in the continual USA.

Dish will not.

If I am on the east coast I don't want to be watching Arizona Chanel's. I am not waiting till 9pm to watch the 6pm AZ news. I am not that loyal to the local news casters.

The local channels are spot beamed so you're won't be watching your local channels much over 500 miles.

We have not had a issue in 11 years on the road with Directv switching to our local channels no matter were we are. We just avoid
mentioning we are a RV.

The thing we do not like with the G2 plus is it dos not receive HD channels on directv .Dish does but it can be hard t o receive the various satellites depending on what part of the country you are in. We still have the Sat dish for directv and may go back to that.
