AGM Batteries and Summer Heat

We are going to leave our MHC 323RL in Arizona on our RV park lot this year from May-October. I have 2 new AGM batteries in the rig that I installed last October. I can leave them in the rig on a maintainer or take them out and put them in a local garage, also on a maintainer where they won’t be exposed to the heat every day. Has anyone done this before, and if so what was the best way to protect your batteries? Did the Arizona summer heat kill your batteries?

Know very little about AGM but I would disconnect the negative cable and leave them in the unit. See no need for a trickle charge.

We only use AGM batteries in our rigs and the one that stays in Tucson just has the negative disconnected while we're gone.

Agree with Dick, completely disconnect the batteries. Need need to keep them on a charger.

Only thing to do with AGM is to ensure they are fully charged, then disconnect the negative terminal as suggested above. They will be fine for months stored fully charged in the battery compartment of your unit.

We’ll be gone for 6 months. Will they last that long without being on a charger occasionally?

Yes, they will be fine but you'll want to recharge them when you get back to your RV. AGM's are the same chemistry as flooded cell lead acid, the acid is in Absorbent Glass Mats, the result is more plates per open area and they can be sealed with a one way vent cap.The construction makes them sulphate and self discharge at a much slower rate than flooded cell batteries and the acid is "hotter" so they finish with a higher voltage.

Should I disconnect both battery leads, or only the negative?

Does it make any difference if they are completely disconnected from the rig, or left in place with the + still connected?

Just disconnect the negative from both.
