3400RL w Chevy 3500 DRW
Another one of my simplistic questions. I will be having the hitch installed in the PU Saturday the 24th. PU is 4WD long bed DRW. I believe the hitch the dealer is installing is a Reese 16K double pivot (back/forth & side/side. Previous MOC response for clearance has convinced me that a minimum of 6" is needed. Does anyone on the forum have a similar set-up that can put me at ease that all clearances, etc. can be met with this combo. Seems like bed rails on truck are pretty high. As always, appreciate the responses and advice.

There should be enough up and down adjustment on the hitch for a good fit..If your dealer knows what they are doing you will be ok. Ask them "we will have at least 6" of bed clearence, right and we need the camper to be level."

Bingo,
The 16K is within spec for a 15,500 lbs trailer, but I have to say if I were starting over, I would go to the 18K.
Reese has a brand new Select Plus 18K hitch that uses the Signature Series head on top of the standard above bed rail assembly. It is only a few hundred difference and has a much better locking mechanism as well as providing an additional safety margin.
I had a hard time finding a dealer that new about it, but if they contact Reese - it's available now.

Older 2007 with 6000 # axles, total weight = 14,000 (I think from web site specs). Hitch was thrown in by the dealer, so can't really argue. Hoping others have same installation with same truck (as usual to give me one less thing to worry about).

I have a 2500HD 4x4 LB Ext Cab with the 16K Reese hitch. I have never had a clearance problem.
Had one situation for 5 weeks where I had to turn out of my camping spot once a week to dump. This turn was up a sharp grade up a driveway and I had to turn 90 degrees onto the road at the top while the 3400 was still on a steep incline. I came close, but cleared. I doubt I will have too many situations quite like that one again - very unusual twist and turn. No problem with the same hitch and bed as you are looking at.

Bingo, there are many here towing similar Montanas with trucks similar to what you have. You should have no problem.
We have the same Montana as you and are very heavily loaded. Same axles as yours, too. We have the Reese 16k hitch. Your setup should work fine. You should have no trouble adjusting to get enough clearance. The six inches you quoted is a good guideline. We have about 7 1/2 inches clearance.
Good luck. Nice rig you have.
