We have marks on our awning rod for the how far out the slides are. I get it out before we unhitch to see if we are going to be okay. You can do it with colored tape or a Sharpie marker. And then after a while you can pretty much just judge that distance.
Happy trails...................

The day is done and now it's time to catch up on the forum. Thanks for all the tips. They're really appreciated. I do agree about the comments on the friendliness of this forum. I've been on others including photography forums which can be pretty tough so you all are very much appreciated. Thanks again.

Brad, If I remember right, none of the slides comes out over 36 inches. I once saw a guy that pulled up to the site and he had some small sticky cups with a rod sticking out of them with a red ping pong ball on the outer tip. He stuck that to the back of his motor home and backed in. I asked him about that and he said the rods were the width of his slide plus a couple of inches for good measure. Said he could see the ping pong balls in his mirrors real good.

Thanks Phil, all good ideas! To think I was doing it by trial and error with so many good resolutions out there. I should pay more attention.

Waiting for Ozz to tell me he uses radar or sonar or something
