Send a message via MSN to Parrothead
In the contruction trade it is referred to as a Water Closet or WC.
Happy trails........................

Sorry guys, after growing up a military kid and moving all around this great country of ours I have a funny way of talking. I took everything from all 4 corners and mixed it all together. Sometimes I forget until someone looks at me funny and says, what the heck are you talking about?

I had the heat vent in the WC in my first unit. Did not like it. Way too hot. I don't have one in my current unit and like this much better. My bedroom heat vent does a fine job. Of course I don't "share" my montana with anyone So closing the door is not an issue.

Now I would love to have a window. It would feel more like a water room than a water closet.

Until we joined the forum we didn't know or use the water closet wording. Gee whiz now this dang forum is changing the way we speak, we truly have been influenced by the MOC. Our 03 2955rl does NOT have a heat vent in the WC.

Whatever you want to call that little room where the potty is - why would you want a window in there? Just curious.

I would like to have a window in the water closet for two reasons, one being the extra light and the second and most important is the fresh air that would be let in by opening it. I have found that when the wind is just right and I have the roof vents open I sometimes get a back lash of odor pulled into the coach from these vents. Have a friend with an Open Road 5th wheel and they swear by that smaller window in the water closet.

Thanks, Montana Sky, for answering my question. We've been fortunate so far and have not had any odor from the roof vents. I can see where a small window in the WC would be beneficial in that respect.

Our 2001 2880RL had a heat vent in the water closet. It easily got too hot in there but I'd prefer that to too cold. Our 2003 3295RK does not have the heat vent in there so we have to prop the door open to let it adjust to room temperature of the surrounding area.

The House Behind the House

One of my fondest memories
As I recall the days of yore
Was the little house, behind the house,
With the crescent o'er the door.

'Twas a place to sit and ponder
With your head all bowed down low;
Knowing that you wouldn't be there,
If you didn't have to go.

Ours was a multi-holer, three,
With a size for everyone.
You left there feeling better,
After your job was done.

You had to make those frequent trips
In snow, rain, sleet, or fog.....
To that little house where you usually
Found the Sears-Roebuck catalog.

Oft times in dead of winter,
The seat was spread with snow.
Twas then with much reluctance,
To that little house you'd go.

With a swish you'd clear that wooden seat,
Bend low, with dreadful fear
You'd shut your eyes and grit your teeth
As you settled on your rear.

I recall the day Ol' Granddad,
Who stayed with us one summer,
Made a trip out to that little house
Which proved to be a bummer.

Twas the same day that my Dad had
Finished painting the kitchen green.
He'd just cleaned up the mess he'd made
With rags and gasoline.

He tossed the rags down in the hole
And went on his usual way
Not knowing that by doing so
He'd eventually rue the day.

Now Granddad had an urgent call,
I never will forget!
This trip he made to the little house
Stays in my memory yet.

He sat down on the wooden seat,
With both feet on the floor.
He filled his pipe and tapped it down
Then struck a match on the outhouse door.

He lit the pipe and sure enough,
It soon began to glow.
He slowly raised his rear a bit
And tossed the flaming match below.

The Blast that followed, I am told
Was heard for miles around;
And there was poor ol' Granddad
Sprawled out there on the ground.

The smoldering pipe still in his mouth,
His eyes were shut real tight;
The celebrated three-holer
Was blown clear out of sight.

We asked him what had happened,
What he said, I'll n'er forget.
He said he thought it must have been
The pinto beans he'd et!

Next day, we had a new one
Dad put it up with ease.
But this one had a door sign
That read: No Smoking, Please!

Now that's the story's end my friend,
Of memories long ago,
When we went to the house behind the house,
Because we had to go.

You do have a way with words even if you borrowed them! I seem to recall that little ditty also. Of course one would have to have some knowledge of the "outhouse" to understand some of it. I just happen to have that knowledge. Always feared what might be down the hole that might come up to get me! These new fangled portable plastic restrooms don't come close to the old three holers but are much easier to tip over!

I remember the outhouse on my grandparents' farm. We'd sometimes stay with them for a week and lots of times for weekends. I was more scared of the coyotes and other sounds I'd hear in the darkness making my way to the outhouse behind the detached garage!
