Fifth wheel mattress replacement recommendations

So after living in our 2019 MHC from July until now, October 2020, just around 4 months the wife and I find we need to replace the mattress that came in the camper, new. That one didn’t last long. Thanks Keystone.😊

Have any other MHC owners experienced problems with the king size mattress ‘sinking’ on the area you primarily sleep and if you replaced yours, what did you replace the original mattress with? We do rotate and flip our mattress on a regular basis.

We went a lot longer than you with the poor mattress that came in our rig. We found a custom mattress manufacturer in Fresno, CA and had a latex foam mattress made. It has the radius corners like the original and can be flipped, unlike the one that came with our rig. We are at over five years on this mattress and it’s still in great shape. We did not go with a memory foam, just don’t like them. Another advantage to the mattress we got is that it weighs much less than the spring mattress that we had.

We also have a 2019 MHC. The factory mattress lasted about 6 months. Keystone replaced it with another one just like it. It lasted about 4 months. Out with those and we went to Original Mattress Factory and had them custom make us an RV King. $400.00. Best decision ever.

Got ours from Sam's club. They delivered, set it up and took the old one which in and of it'self was a big plus.

After 3 months on the mattress in our Monty, we ordered a Sleep Number on the way home from that trip. That Sleep Number has now been in three RVs and now is in the House at our Home Base and installed a newer version Sleep Number in our current unit.

I went with a Tuft and Needle original queen. Never even used the mattress that came with the trailer. Only change i made was a 2" topper, only got this because of the way I sleep, and how i place my knee on the bed. I am a stomach sleeper and require a harder mattress.

In our previous travel trailers we replaced the mattress's with what we had in our house, Serta's. However, in our Montana, we switched gears this time and replaced with a Helix. Not cheap at all, but since we sleep in the camper 10 months out of the year, we wanted something as good or better than our house. The only draw back, it's so heavy, it's hard to lift the bed to reach the under storage area. But, everything under that space are those items we use only occasionally, if ever. Click here.

Our mattress was/is terrible from the start. It was shaped like a hammock after the first nights sleep. We are also interested in replacing so thanks to those who share their option.

We cut the platform down on this trailer before I ever got it and had a new residential queen installed. Gives much more room around the sides to move around...and that is what DW wanted. A standard OE mattress just needs to come out IMO. Standard res queen gives you a zillion options; specially sized RV mattresses not so much.

Wow is this a common subject! Mattresses in most rv's are nothing to brag about. We replaced ours in both of our Monte's within about the same time you are doing it. We first went with a well known brand of mattress used in houses but didn't care for that either. We have now gone to a Sleep Number queen mattress and cut down the support board on the bed. We will not go back to a standard mattress or any foam pad. We do have to watch when increasing in altitude when traveling but that is no problem we just let some air out of the Sleep Number and when we get to our destination we just increase the air to where it is comfortable for us again. Sleep like babies!

+1 For Mattress Insider. We've put their innerspring in two RV's (this one included). The mattress is incredible and they are very great to work with.

We have found a lot of mattresses sweat on the solid platforms used in RVs. Our solution was to replace the plywood platform with a European slat system to provide the springy support and ventilation of a box spring. The regular house-style mattress worked for 9 years, and it never did sweat.

Dreamfoam Arctic Dreams. They do standard and RV sizes. It has coils and memory foam in an awesome balance of the two. I like the RV bed better than the house bed now.

The original mattress had absolutely no support, got rid of it and went with the Wilderness RV King plush, 120 day free trial. Fantastic nights sleeping on it, we should have done it sooner.

We replaced our RV king mattress in our Montana due the same poor quality. We purchased a queen Tuft & Needle mattress. T&N mattresses are very comfortable.

I trimmed the sides of the support platform on the sides since the queen is slightly narrower. Absolutely no regrets.
