New Tires
I want to thank all of you who have posted about Marathon tires on this forum. You finally scared me enough to have new Goodyear G614's installed on our 2009 3400RL. They put them on the morning before we left from Ohio to Florida.
The installer showed me one of the removed tires with a broken belt. He said the tire was egg-shaped when it came off and would never have made it to Florida without blowing. For once I had good timing and avoided a problem.
I also followed advice and purchased a TST tire pressure monitoring system. Except for an unexpected tour of downtown Louisville, because I failed to trust my GPS, it was a very uneventfull 3-day trip.
This forum is very helpful to me. It's much easier to learn from others experiences. Thanks again. Keep up the good work.
Dave

There is nothing quite like the peace of mind you get when the Marathons are no longer following you down the road!

dcpark,
I know this may be a repeat but, before the G-614's went on those rims, they were checked to make sure they could handle the 110 psi, right?

Good move, Dave. We've now gone 19 consecutive months without a tire problem. I'm very pleased with the G614's.
Dale, our rims are marked for 110psi and 3750 lbs but some are not, so good question. A reputable installer will make sure but not all are reputable.

The Dealer can be reputable, but what about the minimum wage running nose kid who operates the tire machine and puts the tires on the rims?

In our case, where we buy our tires, there are no kids operating the tire machine. In fact, the professionalism exhibited by everyone in the garage is exemplary.

Reputable tire dealers don't hire runny nosed kids at minimum wage to run their tire machines. Reputable tire dealers hire competent, clean cut individuals, spend a great deal of money and time training them, and pay them a whole lot more than minimum wage. The key word in this is REPUTABLE, something you won't find at the big box discount stores. If you want professionalism go to a professional. If you want discount pricing, don't complain about the lack of professional installation.

Lonnie, I agree, I was just makeing a general comment. I've dealt with the Local Goodyear Dealer, which used to be a Trucking Company and still run a very large Re-cap business, and some of their help is questionable at best. First hint is the fact that they are always advertising for help, but I have gotten some good prices on Goodyear tires for both the Monty and the Chevy.

Thanks for your concerns, guys. All rims were marked with 3750 lbs. and I even put in a call to Tredit to confirm that 3750 equated to 110 psi. They said I was good to go. I might add we installed steel valve stems also. Many of you are much more knowledgeable than the rest of us. That is why this forum is so valuable.
