Range Vent Leak

We have had a persistent leak above our range hood and have decided to ask if anyone else has had the same problem. We have had it in for the fix under warranty and we will have to take it back for that and other things before our trip south for the winter. The vent is latched and I have done the water test w/hose to determine it is coming in at the vent. Any help would be appreciated.....Bill&Sue

I know this is maybe a foolish question, but have you or someone you know looked at the vent frame and made sure the frame is caulked all the way around? sending it in for repairs, sometimes they just kind of tell you what you want to hear.Self inspection is a sure way of knowing.

Yes I have inspected it and it is caulked and they did a nice job making sure it is. It is baffling to me because everything looks very good. I wonder if the vent itself could have a flaw and was just curious if it was a known issue. On the initial repair when I inspected the screws there was at least one screw that went to nowhere. I will have it replaced and go from there. Thanks

My vent leaked also, I caulked around the vent which did no good. Then I backed out all the screws and put caulk around them, then reseated the screws and no more leak.

In the mean time, try taping some plastic over the vent. Or you could use the Glad press N seal over the vent.

when Hurricane Irene came by last month, I went out and covered all my vents(stove & refer) with the press n seal.

Thanks Tom I went out last night and taped some plastic over the vent and sure enough it stopped the leak. I am going to have them replace the vent and also caulk all the screws as suggested when I take it in for other work as well. Thanks....Bill & Sue
