Mattress

I have read on the forum have some people have changed the mattress out in their Montana's.. We are thinking about doing this.. Does anyone have a problem with it when the slide comes in. The new mattress is 80 inches long. From my measurements it will hit the chest of drawers. I do not think it will put that much pressure on the drawers.
Thanks

lfw,
We changed our king for a queen in the Monty. The king was 80"long and the queen is 80"long. The mattress does snug up to the dresser and not a problem. Our replacement queen is one of those foam type mattresses.

Ifw,

We also did this. However our replacement mattress was a standard unit. It also is snug against the dresser but does not present any problem when closing the slide. We also have the standard 80 inch new mattress.

We replaced the OEM mattress with a Queen sized Seily 15 inch thick unit. Works great and keeps drawers from opening.. Dave

We modified the platform a little to support the larger size. We now have the queen size mattress (80")and it touches the dresser drawers when it is closed. We haven’t had any problems as a result. I don’t think you will have any trouble with it at all.

lfw - Is the old mattress length shorter than the new mattress length? Or it seems that if others have installed 80" long mattresses it sounds like you have might not have anything to worry about since the width of the slide and the dresser would be the same on all units.

I suppose more than 80" starts becoming a concern. In that case, you might consider elevating the mattress platform so that bringing in the slide clears the dresser. But then it's another thing to remember before bringing in the slides, and you lose the ability to leave stuff on the bed for extra storage during travel.

Thanks for all the information on replacing the mattress with one that is 80 inches long.. We will probably do it in the next couple of days as soon as the snow melts..
The original mattress was 77 inches long.. The 80 inch mattress should work great for us.. and a better nights sleep...
Thanks..

We just put a new Queen Serta pillow top in our 3400RL. It fit in length and with just fine but I think I'll be hitting my head when sitting up in the morning. The wife will need a step stool to get into bed. But boy is it comfy.

A few months before we bought our Montana we bought a new mattress for our 2002 Cedar Creek. We got it at Sleepys in NJ. I think they are all over the o(edited)ry. We told them it was for an RV. They had two mattress models that they called a Queen Short and made especially for RVs.

When we bought the Montana, we told the dealer we wanted to keep our own mattress. The Montana had a King. No problem. We cut the bed platform on each side about 4"s. The Queen fit perfectly and that extra 4" on each side made a huge difference in the room.

We never owned a 5th wheel that had a good mattress until this 2010 5th wheel and its a Sleep number. We downsized to a Queen size mattress this time also, in our opinion the King size is a waste of space. We have much more room around the bed and the Sleep number is great. I would recomend you look at he Sleep number also. We will be getting a Sleep number for our Stick house also. And the Sleep number is made for the 5th wheel. Good Luck with you choice. GBY....

We also replaced the King sized mattress with a Queen-sized Select Comfort Airbed. (had to cut down the plywood) Works great, is lightweight, and we each have the firmness we desire.

We also have a pillow top we took out of the guest room and put it in the Montana. The guests now sleep on the old RV mattress.

We did take the king bed out and put a queen.. cut down the plywood and it all works great.. now we get a good nights sleep.. Took the king and put it in our water bed frame in the stick house.. got tired of buying water bed heaters.. every time we left for a few months it would quit working.. We always looked forward to sleeping in a nice warm water bed after being gone a few months..

After 5 years, we were considering a new king. Instead, we bought a 2" memory foam topper. Now it sleeps like new and is wonderful.

grumpys295rkd, - That's one way to insure guests don't stay to long!!

Seriously though, we replaced our short queen with a Bergad Isoform 8" memory foam mattress. The new Monty will have a reg king/queen length, so swapping it is out (unless I were to make a 60"x6" filler for the top). We are considering replacing the new rv mattress with the one from the stick house. My question is, the new matress has radius corners, would square corners on my currant house mattress cause an issue when retracted or with use of the bed cover? If the more square corners will not be a problem perhaps we will order a new 10" Bergad for the house and do a swap.

Bergad will do custom shapes and sizes as they did a short queen and cover at no additional charge.

We bought our Montana in 2008 and it was the 10th anniversary model. Our mattress is so bad since day one. You can feel the coils in the mattress. I can't wait to get another mattress. You mentioned a 2" pillow top mattress. How do you like it?

We bought a 3” memory foam for our bed. Best investment we’ve ever made! Love it!
