5th Wheel Cover

We have a 2011 Montana Mountaineer 326rlt which I must store in an outdoor area under full sun. I am considering a cover - but for the life of me I cannot see how my wife and I can put a cover on a rig this big. Plus, I just had the Winnegard Traveler HD antenna installed, which between the AC, antennas, and other vents would -I assume- prevent smooth pulling of the cover over the roof.

Anyone have any positive or negative opinions on a cover and how hard they are to install/remove. I am concerned about the hot Calif sun continuously beating down on my rig.

I would not go with a soft cover. I have owned many over the years and they tear, wear out, chafe the RV, are hard to put on, and expensive. I went with this option. http://x.co/Y9p0

I'm NOT a cover enthusiast ... as mentioned, they chafe anything that sticks out like corner trim, awning arms, decals ... they don't last long if there is any wind no matter how you lash them down, and they are darned pricey. After a good washing, apply (or have someone apply) a good UV protectant like Aerospace 303 three or four times a year ... you'll be better off than enduring the cover experience. JMHO

I can not think of a condition where I use a cover. I think you are better off with a good wax job with quality material.

I set my previous unit up for two years while I was abroad. No cover was used. A good wash and wax job made it like new.

The only way I found to cover mine was to drag the cover up on the roof with me, grab the front of the cover and climb up. Once I have it faked out on the roof I drop down the front then move my way back dropping down the sides. Is I come down the ladder I pull the rear down with me. With a helper it takes about 20 minutes.

Yes they are expensive, Yes its a pain, Yes they do tear on the water spouts and any thing else on the sides. And finally.....Yes it does its job of keeping the extremely hot Florida sun off of it.

I picked mine up straight from Adco they have a clearance section thats about 50 percent off the normal price.

I also run a standup AC unit that I picked up from Home Depot and vent the Hot air out of the kitchen window. I also have a cheap box fan that moves the air around inside as well.

Before I became aware of the forum, I bought a cover. It is taking up space in my garage and will stay there until I sell it. After listening to the MOC experts and seeing the torn ones at various storage locations I've opted to never install it.

As an update, found an indoor storage facility - its a little pricey at $125 mo, but a straight pull through slot, under lock and key, with security and two electric roll up 14' doors in warehouse.

So - will not need a cover. Thanks for all the input!

All in all, I think you are ahead of the game with locked, secure, storage. Congratulations.
