Coming back into the US-food issues?
I am trying to find out just what the US Customs folks will be looking for as far as food stuff goes? Has anyone gone across the Canadian border lately back into the US?
Any information will be appreciated.

I think it depends on which memo they decided to read this week.

Bigmurf is right. From our past experience it might be apples, tomatoes or cherries. There was no problem with fish.
It seems like if you bought a fruit or vegetable in Canada they want to take it. You can check with customs and see what is permissible to bring back. It may depend on what border crossing you are coming back through.

Not the case when we came back over last year. The border guy saw the dog in the TV, but he never asked about dog food or treats...and ours was definitely not in original containers!

Yes it is the case... If they go through your rig for any reason they will check everything and if the pet food is not in the original containers they will seize it happen to us and two others we know of. Just know the law and everything will work out

I remember something about meat... We had some hamburger in a roll package thing and some other meat. One or the other got thrown out. Don't remember which. But acording to the link above, it sounds like all meat is prohibited.

The agent this morning asked about: what we had bought (souvenirs); alcohol (some Canadian beer for the kids); dog food (USA bought in original bag); guns (none - we had been in Canada and they don't take kindly to them) and had we been to Alaska (no). He then took a quick look inside the RV but since he didn't open the slides there isn't anything to see (you can't access the refer without opening a slide). We were through in under 5 minutes. We had tossed all the vegi's as we didn't want to hassle with what was legal and what was not. But then we didn't have too much left anyway. There were some limes "accidentally" left under a gallon jug of iced tea. After all, what is gin & tonic without a lime?
This was at Osoyoos, a small station and we were the only returnee at the time.

Here's my little trick when Kat I return to the U.S. on an international flight - we get into the USDA line where there are few to no people and I present my Washington apple with the sticker still on it! They examine the sticker, tell me it's okay and that I can now leave with my apple.
