Route 17 Orlando to Sanibel?

This March on our way to Sanibel Island, we have decided to stop off in Sorrento, Florida at Wikeva Campground. This puts me on an unfamiliar route, 17 from outside of Orlando to Route 75 on our way south to Sanibel Island.

Is anyone familiar with this route and is it OK for RVs? Thank you in advance.

The road above arcadia is two lanes, some places divided, some not. Below arcadia, four lanes for most part. The citrus trucks use this route so it is big truck safe. There are stop lights near every town above arcadia, but no big deal. With all the construction on 75, you will probably enjoy the tow a lot more. Hope this helps you. John

US Rt. 17 is a truck route. As of 2 months ago there was some construction around Arcadia but nothing too major that would delay you. US Rt. 27 coming south is also a truck route and good pavement. If you decide to take US Rt. 17 all the way to Punta Gorda and then Rt. 41 on in through N. Ft. Myers/Ft. Myers you will find that the stretch between Tuckers Grade and North Ft. Myers has been repaved and completed finally. I suspect you will probably take I-75 down to Daniels though.
