Exterior Care
We have a new 3400 RL which we will be living in full-time for the next year while we build our next (downsized) house. The trailer will have its own garage in the next house, but will be outside 24/7 for the next year. We will be stationary most of the time in a campground. I am getting mixed messages from the dealer as to what exterior care (rubber roof treatment, waxing, etc.) I should do to maintain the appearance and structural integrity of the shell. What do you folks recommend, and when should I make the first application (the trailer is only two months old)? What products do you recommend? Thanks for any advice.

I have treated all my RVs and boats like my vehicles. Use the same products, too. The majority of auto wax/polish is advertised to work on fiberglass as well as metal. Although there are lots of good marine waxes/polishes available. As for the roof, it should be fine for only one year outside...with a 12 year warranty, one year won't hurt. I would cover the tires...CW has vinyl tire covers for a reasonable price.

I would get some 303 Protectant from CW too. It is really great and will help to keep you decals in great shape as well as protecting the outside. It is pretty good stuff.

I am now using Gel-Gloss wash and wax on my coach. It has been my experience that the more you wash and wax your coach, the better it will look in years to come.
On the roof, I used Thetfords Rubber Roof Cleaner and Conditioner. Does a very good job and keeping the roof white and keeping black streaks to a minimum.

Harbor Freight has cheaper tire covers. Whatever you do, NEVER use a petroleum based cleaner or product on the EPDM rubber roof!

Once a year clean the roof (spic and span) is OK for that and just wawsh it like your truck and you will be ok. I think if I was not going move it. I would find out from the dealer where you could BLOCK it up and take the weight off the tire's. Heck even remove them and put them in storage.
hope this helps John

Why don't you just bite the bullet, and get a cover. You can wax your hands numb, but the sun will beat you every time. It will prolong for a while, but you need to get it out of the UV. There are all kinds of inexpensive..realitivity speaking..covers that will protect your investment. I know they are a hard thing to put on by yourself, but you may get help from whoever goes rving with you.

With the slides in as well!!! Most covers are made to protect the trailer with the slides in.
I would try and set something up to wax it a couple of times especially the sides that would get the most sunlight. Clean the roof at least a couple of times as well. That will keep any bird or tree droppings stains to a minimum.
