A Long, Stressful Trip Home

Sept 1, I used the internet to read our hometown newspaper. We were into our third week of a two month trip and were in South Dakota. I noticed in the paper the headline story: "wildfire off Ivan Marx rd in . . .." I nearly had a heart attack. The fire was right on my back door. We had to wait until the next day to find out the horrible news. Our home was totally destroyed along with the barn.

After a five day trip home, we finally viewed 11 years of our lives laying in ashes. On the plus side, we now get to build another home any way we want, and shop 'til we drop replacing the contents. I'll finally get that big screen TV I've wanted.

Another plus: the Monty performed wonderfully and the tow vehicle was great. No problems with either. Not even one hiccup with our Marathon tires. Nor Calif to MN and they still look new.

Maybe this time next year we'll be in our new rebuilt home. Hope so, cuz I'm itchin' to go RVing again.

Dennis. May not have been my place but after your loss hit newspaper, I ask our members to send thoughts to you and Annie. Please look under announcements and read the wonderful thoughts. I apologize if it was out of place, but I felt you needed to know this group of caring members would respond!

Sorry to hear about the fire and your loss. Our home survived the High Park fire in Colorado but many of our neighbor's homes did not. Your attitude toward it is what will get you through. Good luck.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your home. I can't imagine what it must be like to lose everything and especially things that are unreplaceable. You definately have the right attitude and hopefully things will be back to normal before too long.

Sorry to hear of the loss, good luck with the new home. It's the little things you have collcted and memories that are lost, but I agree, your positive attitude is great, and healthy.
Take care.

That was one of our fears during our 4 months out this summer. No matter what you cannot prepare the place or yourselves for such a disaster. A small silver lining might be that it was over before you knew about it, so you never had a chance to worry before the worst happened. Our best to you as you rebuild your home.

Sad story, but it sounds like you're gonna bear through it and have a good attitude about it. Y'all keep your heads up and at least you have a place to live in that Montana in the meantime. Keep us posted and may your next trip be even better.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your house, but the momentos inside are the hardest things to lose. But it's another roadbump in life and you'll get thru it and be talking about it on the porch 10 years down the road. Good luck with the rebuild..

Sorry to hear about the home. I can't even imagine that kind of loss. Good luck on the rebuild and hopefully a speedy recovery. Take care and have the best day you can. As everyone has said your attitude seems to be the best it can be, and thats a huge plus.

Very Sorry to hear of your loss but your positive attitude is an inspiration.

I think that the rest of us on Moc can learn something however from your experience.

As one who lives on the NC Atlantic Coast, we've been chased from our home twice in the last 7 years as a hurricane bore down on us. Fortunately in both occasions our home survived.

Both times when we left we took a good look as we knew it could be the last time we see our home standing. Becasue of that we looked around the house for things that we just couldn't imagine losing and wanted to bring with us.... along with some important papers.

It was amazing how little there was that we felt we just had to take. A memento of this or that. A treasured keepsake, but not much couldn't be replaced. We have all of our photos digitized and on both computers.

So - when we leave either for a hurricane evac, or for several months on the road - we take our hurricane box with us. It doesn't take very much space (the size of a couple of shoe boxes) but provides us with what we need should the unimaginable happen.

Wow, I read this yesterday, and was just plain pretty much too overwhelmed to respond. So sorry for your loss. I am glad to see you have a good attitude however and am sure that will help you through this. Thoughts and prayers for you there.
