No rear cap on new Montana?
I might have missed this in other posts? When did they stop putting end caps on Montanas? I was in Petaluma Ca and a brand new Montana was next to me. It had flat backend, no molded Cap? I walked around thinking it was a "Montana Varient", but no it was a Montana? I was little disappointed to see it. Can someone enlighten me on what's going on here?

One must now buy the Legacy Package to get the rear cap. Bummer.

I think the solid wall is better insulated than the plastic cap. I saw the inside of my 3750 and ther wasn't much there

Flat back looks cheap. Glad we got our 2015 before they made all the mid year production changes, all of which were negatives for our floorplan.

Yep, now you can buy a stripped down version of a Montana allowing Keystone and their dealers to hit a certain price point and still call it a Montana.

We cussed and discussed this the end of January
http://www.montanaowners.com/forums/...ad.php?t=61621
Unlike when the "Montana line" first started out around 2000 ... it seems Keystone is catering to the long timers and full timers with the Montana offering. We liked the bang for the buck with the shorter fivers back then. Currently a real Montana "legacy" only has a model or two under 35' ... several of us don't need a mega trailer and will have to consider alternate ideas when trade time comes. With build quality I've witnessed ... trade time is a long ways off.

Must have been in coma. Did not see that thread. What a shame Keystone took that giant leap backwards!

the Mountaineer by Montana was discontinued. The Mountaineer was a Montana model.. It its place appeared the "Montana" which suspiciously looks just like the Mountaineer. The Montana Legacy is the previous "Montana" In effect they just renamed the Mountaineer.

Rich hit the nail on the head! At the last Fall Rally we were told the Mountaineer name would be discontinued and would now appear as a straight Montana. The Montana we all know and love is now the Montana Legacy. It has all the goodies the original(as we know it or knew it) had and you can get all kinds of new add on's also.

The exec's at Keystone are the "smartest guys in the room"! I can just see it three four years from now after losing copious amounts of business to SOB's. "We are returning to our roots to make Montana the number 1 brand again"! Seen it happen time and time again! Frustrating! Looks like Alpine in fact is the more upscale line. We were assured it was not to be better than Montana. It appears that was not true?

I have already e-mailed my opinion to Keystone. How about a large scale group effort from all active MOC members to let them know our dissatisfaction?

As long as they keep selling as the top producer they could care less.

We were told long ago by keystone leadership that each keystone division had there own operating budget and can pretty much do what they think is best. They are in effect in competition with one another. Good Business. Remember not long ago the "Everest" Line. It was pretty much the same as the Montana but did not sell well. They discontinued the Everest line and in its place , same factory, same line appeared the Alpine. It is a great seller. Good business.
We were told by keystone leadership that the Montana and Big Sky line was in a higher price range and appealed to a select group of buyers. They needed something that appealed to the majority of Rv'ers hence the new "Montana" and the higher end Montana legacy.
I see it as offering a competitive product and very good business. They want to stay the top producer and need to stay competitive to do it.Yes they are cashing in on the Montana name but that is nothing new in business.

Any business hast to know who they are. Whether it's General Motors, Montana or my tiny business if you don't know who you are your customers will never figure it out. Montana was the most camper you could buy for the money. Now who knows what Montana is they have cheapened the name by plastering it on anything they can pass off as a Montana. They will pay for that.

We noticed the cap and name difference because we are Montana owners and know the product. The Average Rv buyer has no idea of the history of the line and will look at the pricing and floor plans. Montana is giving the buyer a wider choice of price ranges. We knew instantly when we saw the Flat back "Montana" at the fall rally that it was a renamed Mountaineer. I don't think it fooled any one there but the person who does not know the line will not know the difference.

We purchased a 2015 3440RL in March of this year. Initially all we saw were "FLAT BACK" Montana's. I said to the dealers this really looks cheap! They told me that they showed this to a group of Montana enthusiast's and they were excited that now they could have an easier time waxing the flat back. Again I said yuck they sure didn't ask for my input. Ultimately we added the Legacy Edition Package to the purchase and we not only received the beautiful painted rear cap that matches the painted front but a whole host of other nice features. Upgraded AC in the main coach (it is quiet) the traditional day/night shaded were replaced in the main area, heated bathroom and bedroom floor all solid wood cabinets, no wrapped wood anyplace. Was really worth the extra investment.

Hey, that is what was told to me! True or false it was ugly to see a flat back Montana.

Those of us that have owned a Montana or two know the difference between a new Montana and a new Montana with the legacy package. But of course as Rich stated "the person who does not know the line will not know the difference."

"They told me that they showed this to a group of Montana enthusiast's and they were excited that now they could have an easier time waxing the flat back." What Group of Montana enthusiasts said that ??? The most common expression we heard at the rally was "WTF is that.
Actually the Montana Legacy is the old Montana and the new flat back Montana is the old Mountaineer. Those of us who have the old Montana got a instant upgrade as now when we sell or trade we can say we have the Montana Legacy.
