Fridge use on propane at altitude

Hi All,

We are heading to Utah for September and plan on doing a moderate amount of boondocking/dry camping. I was wondering if people have had any issues running their fridge (we have the Norcold 2118) on propane at higher altitudes. The Norcold Manual suggests running on AC above 5500' as may not cool as efficiently and/or flame may go out occasionally. I haven't seen many comments on it so I am hoping its just the manufacturer covering themselves vs a real concern.

Thanks in advance

We have run ours up to 9K feet without issue but did have issues with HW heater on gas at that elevation. Would run the generator for 20 minutes to get hot water.

Thanks AZ, sounds like it may all depend on how the flames are adjusted in the heater or fridge.

Anyone else have issues?

No issues. I have camped at 8500 ft in Wyoming and both frig and heater worked fine. Although when outside temp is 50-60, you don't need much cooling in the frig!!
Also spent 3 weeks in Co. at over 8000 and no problems.

No problems here, I live in Denver at 5280 feet, and camp regularly at 9,000 plus, with no issues. Butane may give you problems at altitude, but not propane.

We've used ours at 7000 feet above Bishop in the Sierra's and had no issues either.

We camp 4 months each year at 8300 ft and have never had a problem with ours but a neighbor with an older unit (2014) has a problem of the propane turning off and on but as of today the reason hasn't been found.

We live at 7500 feet in Colorado and camp over 9000 feet every summer without issue on fridge, furnace or water heater. Enjoy the boondocking. One of the many great things about living out west.

Our spot in Colorado is @ 9000ft +. We have Norcold 2100 and have no problems running on LP or AC. Doesn't keep ice cream frozen @ 9000 ft or at sea level... ☹️

Scattershot, Can you buy butane any more? I was totally unaware that it was for sale anywhere.
