Tonneau Cover
Ok, as always, looking for more great advice on what type of tonneau covers you all use.
I want a retractable cover that is hard. Not a soft roll-up.
Been looking at the Retrax Pro, BAK Roll-up and Pace-Edwards Jack Rabbit.
Any thoughts or input on what is good or bad out there?
We have a 2012 Chevy Silverado with an 8 foot bed.
Thanks in advance!!!

I was going to go with Pace Edwards and the install shop recommended Truck Cover USA.I went with it and it was rated to support up to 500 pounds. I believe Pace Edwards was only up to 350 (I can not find their support weight spec on web now). Both worked with the Transfer Flow "L" aux fuel tank.

Got the Retrax on ours and would not be without it! It does take up a little space in the front on the bed but still have some storage under the storage box for the cover and space to store the generators and a gas can infront of the hitch yet. I tow with the cover partway closed over the gennies and it can be locked in any position you put it. I do have to bungie cord down the release handle for the hitch when the Monte is not connected and I want to close the cover but well worth the money and the convenience of being able to lock the cover when closed and not towing. For total security you do need to have the locking tailgate but that is not problem to get and install!

I have the roll-n-lock on mine. It is a well built and versatile acover. Only complaint is the space it takes in the bed. Only issue I had is if the drains in the roller box clog and it rains and freezes you have to thaw out the box before you can retract the cover. If I ever change I'll go back to a tri-fold hard top. Had that on my last truck and loved it. Felt it sealed better and weight on the cover was never a concern. Jim

We have the BAK rollup and it is a great hardbody cover. Only drawback, when rolled up, blocks view of the hitch, making it a little trickier to hook up.

I have the Pace Edwards Full Metal Jackrabbit on mine. Also had one on my previous truck for 5 years. Very happy with it. Was still looking good and working good when I traded for the new truck. Even after finding my 6 yr old nephew jumping up and down on it like a trampoline.

Saw the Retrax on Al's at the rally and really liked it. Planning on ordering one for the new Dodge if it ever arrives.

I have the Pace Edwards retractable. It fit nicely behind the 37 gallon Transferflow tank. Love it.

I bought the Retrax Pro for my 2012 Ford F-250 Super Duty 6.7L Diesel. You still get to use the entire floor space around the hitch but the box next to the cab does take up about 6 inches of space. I will tell you that it turns heads and is an awesome addition. Locks in any position, closes over my Reese 16K hitch when not in use, and is virtually water proof in a hard rain storm. I got a small scratch from loading some big tree limbs in the truck bed and called Retrax to see if they had touch up paint. Customer Service was excellent and mailed me a touch up pen free of charge. Virtually eliminated the visual scratch The warranty is lifetime, so in my mind it is worth the extra bucks. Simple to install and very happy with it.

Agreed. I have the same cover (bak flip). I've been mostly satisfied with it. It has a good drainage system and doesn't leak Into the bed. I can see the hitch head just fine from my cab when hooking up and unhooking. I would recommend it.

I like our fold-a-cover,
Had it for a few years and holding up well.
After we purchased the F-350
I moved it from the Dodge and still using it.
It folds on over in back of the window ans some straps snap it down securely while towing.

Thanks for all the input. I am going to stay away from the fold up type. I want one that rolls up.
Leaning towards the Retrax Pro at this point but still need to do a little more research.

My dad has the Retrax on his Toyota Tundra and we have always liked the way it works. I have been considering the Retrax for my truck as well, but I also already have a nice Husky aluminum 5th wheel tailgate for my truck and havn't decided for sure which route I want to take with that yet.
I don't think you can go wrong with the Retrax...excellent product in my opinion!

On a prior short bed, I originally tried to get a Retrax but the local place where I wanted check it out kept flaking out, then moved and didn't keep in contact. I figured they didn't want the sale. Settled on the Pace Edwards Rollback and didn't like how much room I lost at the front of the truck bed. But it worked especially with the detent intervals.
Traded that truck for the long bed I have now. I went with the BAKFlip. I don't mind it flipping and covering the back window because I'm comfortable with driving with side mirrors. When hooking up the rig I don't flip it back all the way so I can see the hitch. Problem is, I've had this one for almost seven years and it's getting ratty. It looks like the newer version of the BAKFlip is better and not susceptible to some of the problems I am having.
I recently removed the cover because I put a low profile toolbox in place and it conflicted with the cover. Since I need some security, it stays off and I use only the locking toolbox.
I would like another rolling style cover but I wish they offered some kind of lift or spacer kit so it could sit higher on the truck bed rails.
I have noticed after removing the cover, and with my relatively conservative driving style my mpgs have dropped just a bit. It's hard to get over 21.5 mpg without the cover. With the cover I could easily find moments of 22 to 24mpg. But I'm happy in case either since I do regularly get over 20 mpgs.
One of these days I want to put the cover back on, but then what do I do with the toolbox? I'd need a little engineering to get in back on the bed rails and still work with the tool box. Now THAT would be awesome and provide so many options.
