Winegard Connect 2.0 Data Usage

We have factory/dealer installed Winegard Connect 2.0 without on/off switch. Depleted 50GB Verizon in 7 days, only streaming ROKU 2-3 hours evenings and 2 hours of social media on laptop. Is this normal data usage? Seems excessive to us. TIA

Cszafrajda - Your post caught my eye, since I too have been scratching my head seeing this thing burn through my data plan. I installed my own GW-1000, but added the inline switch that came with the unit. I've been setting up my rig and using our AppleTV in SD mode to save data or just listen to music. However, in only 4 days it has burned through nearly 15GB - seems a bit much!

Our unit came with the Sansui 50" TV with the Android operating system. I love the performance of the system but I think it too eats through the data.

Please post any updates!

I have a T Mobile 100GB for $50 a month plan. Winegard 1000 that's left on 24/7. Two TV's and two phones. Haven't had a problem. 3 GB per hour of streaming is normal.

Researched ROKU data usage and yes data is being used during non-streaming. If system isn’t unplugged or properly turned off (4k ROKU)data is used for upgrades and downloads. Due to 2 4K ROKU systems not properly turned off and cell phone utilizing Winegard WI-FI, 50GB can be used in 7 days. Will update findings on our next outing.

Excellent find! After seeing your post I turned off the Wifi to the Sansui TV and just left the AppleTV have it way with the gateway.

So here is a bit of a telecom company conspiracy note for ya - my first plan was the 15GB plan through ATT. I was 12GB into it after only a week of sporadic use. So I went online and upgraded to the 50GB plan ($20+ month). I logged back onto my ATT account the next day to verify and noticed by usage had gone from 12GB this month to 5GB ... hmm.

Was the first measurement a ploy to upgrade??? Who knows ....

Cheers!

I had the same issue and figured out that my Google TV (or Roku, or Apple TV) picture quality was set to 4K.

4K video uses 233 Mb per minute or 14 GB in an hour. So if you have a 50 MB plan...that is a little over 5 hrs to consume that.

720p or 1080p uses only 2-4 GB per hour
480p uses .8 GB (800 Mb) per hour

So setting you picture quality will make a HUGE difference in how long you data lasts.
