wet bolts and 6 pt leveling

i have the new monty with the wet bolts and auto leeling. question how often do you grease the wetbolts, and on the leveleing legs what do you use to clean the outer cylinder of the leg i know in the aviation world we use a 5606 hydraulic fluid to wipe down the outer cylinders of the main gear and nose gear. im assuming something like that would b ok aka. dextron fluid thanks for the hekp

I am using a silicon spray. Guess how often you grease the wetbolts is tied to mileage you put on the rig. I plan on doing it every six months or so. I also added a quart of Fork Oil per the maintenance brochure.

At minimum, grease the wet bolts each spring. If you're traveling more than 5k or so, I'd grease them again (just my thoughts).

Thanks for the flashback.. I haven't heard that MILSPEC in a long time. I remember gallon cans of the stuff.
Since the hydraulic cylinders use hydraulic fluid, I would think Dexron would be OK to use. The only thing is that you'd have to wipe them down before & after each "flight" as they'd likely attract dust/dirt. Not sure what the manufacturer recommends.

As stated in the LCI maintenance manual for their leveling system, in the event there is a popping noise experienced in the system, it is recommended that a quart of anti-stiction fluid be added, provides step by step instructions and recommends three products, Torco RFF, Maxima Fork oil, or Caterpillar hydraulic fluid. The fluid also prevents foaming, seal hardening, oxidation, and stiction. While I did not experience popping (some have), I added a quart because of the other reasons cited above. Since the system was new to me, I went on line and did some research so I could maintain and troubleshoot as necessary. Silicon oil was recommended for the legs.

Wipe them down with whatever your have, ATF on a rag, Simple Green and a hose, all they are asking is to remove the dirt that their wiper seals can not remove.

In the real world, does CAT ask their operators to wipe down the rams on their bulldozers before they dig a ditch. Hell no they do not. Just more BS from Lippert to correct their lack of quality in their rams.

Wet Bolts, grease once a year.

Sorry Guys, Lippert = China Junk....Poor seals and you got to deal with it.

The big boys don't wipe down their rams used for various work...but those are also steel units and way better than the aluminum rams that are used for leveling our montys as a means to save weight. I wipe them down with a clean rag, top to bottom then spray with silicon spray. John

To bad all you guys aren't at the Fall Rally here Power Lube in Goshen because you would have learned all about the level-up system-- what to add to the tank when you have specific problems, what to use on the shafts and a whole lot more! Lippert is a yearly seminar participant here and they go from A to Z on the level-up system and answer all the questions that are brought up. In reference as to what to use on the shafts or landing gear legs when you are setting for more than a month or more-- the answer is CRC Power Lube a High Performance w/PTFE. You are to spray it on the shaft and then wipe it off with clean lint free rag! They do not recommend silicone period or to leave the CRC on the shafts when you spray it on. All that is needed is a thin coat of the CRC on the legs!

jlb27537-- I think you had better come to Goshen/Elkhart and visit the Lippert/LCI factory and see where the parts for there level-up system comes from and from your picture on your posts it sure looks like you have the Level-Up system on Montana. IF you don't like the system take the thing off and go back to the electric gear run system. No body says you have to have it on your unit and you can always go back to the hand operated systems! I personally like the system and it is a whole lot easier to set up/take down when I come into a campground or get ready to leave. I don't know if you had yours put on after the fact or if it was on when you purchased it. If you think it is China Junk then you should not have bought the unit in the first place and purchased a unit that had the standard landing/leveling system!

Minimally, I do wet bolts annually when I repack wheel bearings. If I traveled a great deal, I would do more often.

As for lubrication/cleaning of rams, this is out of the Lippert Manual.

5. If jacks are down and slideouts extended for long periods, it is recommended to spray exposed leveling jack and slideout cylinder rods with a silicone lubricant every seven days for protection. If your coach is located in a salty environment, it is recommended to spray the rods every 2 to 3 days

I have heard verbally many times not to use silicone but this is the wording they keep in their manual.

Hmmmm I don't got the level up, but if I did I would probably use the silicone. If it's steel, aluminium or rubber and plastic, then silicone would be fine on it....probably a lot cheaper then the fancy spray they are trying to sell you. They use silicone in the telecommunications industry around a lot of sensitive equipment with no problems. .... Wet bolts should be fine just greased good once a year unless you are traveling every day...nothing wrong with greasing them more if you are bored with nothing to do....But lets not over think this.....
