Surround sound system

Have 08 3400RL (of course bought in Aug 07. Replaced DVD-surround sound system in 2010 with upgraded Chinese system. Now have replaced for 2nd time TVs (32" LG downstairs & 22" LG bedroom fit perfectly)and want brand name sound system. Have done extensive internet research but want to check if anyone has replaced it with good system.

My 2014 3402RL came with a Sony TV and Sony Blueray player that is a combination BD player, radio, AV amp and internet media player. They connect the TV optical audio out to the optical audio in on the combo unit and now anything I watch on TV has 5.1 sound. So the Dish satellite that connects to the TV via HDMI still has 5.1 since the TV sends the audio to the combo. You can use the TV or Satellite remote to control the 5.1 because the Sony units communicate somehow.

Don't know where yours is located or how much room there is. On mine the system (sound/DVD/CD/radio) is located in a narrow slot in the cabinet beneath the TV so I have somewhat limited room. Also the front speakers are built into that cabinet.
I took measurements and went to Best Buy. They had several different models of home theater systems from several different manufacturers, Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, and another or two. The one closest in size to my original was a Panasonic 5.1 blu-ray home theater system complete with new speakers also close in size. Bought the blu-ray since we already had a blu-ray DVD system and some blu-ray DVDs at home. The system fit into my cabinet fine. But the speakers were slightly larger requiring me to cut the speaker openings a little to get them in. Used the existing speaker wiring to the surround sound speakers.
But install was not too bad and the sound is much better than the no-name unit I had before that died. The original lasted about 2 years.
Replaced both TVs several years ago with Samsung TVs.

Thanks Bill & Patricia - Keystone has improved the sound/DVD system according to Jim & Martha but we got that unknown Chinese system with my replacement being the same company. I checked on buying new system but only sales is some import company out of NJ which required that I buy minimum of 50. I will check on Panasonic system - don't mind doing a little cutting as there is a little wiggle room around the speakers - must have same setup as yours. Do you know the Panasonic model number? Thanks, DAVE

Our '10 model came with a Samsung - same brand we've got at home. While the sound is good, but DVD player isn't Blu-Ray and I'm still trying to finesse a way around that. Don't want to buy a replacement system as I've enough extra speakers laying around & haven't been able to find just the electronics part.

We have the same setup like jfaberna. Our old 2004 had a replacement unit from Lazydays when we bought it and it was an RCA. The systems that we have can be bought at BestBuy and Walmart. I've already seen them there.

Looks like I will get either the Boston Acoustics or Samsung system - both have satellite speakers that will come close to fitting. Thanks for help - looking forward to getting back on road. Had to spend too much time last year in Texas due to mitral valve re-repair but has given me time to get all repairs done on Monty that I had been putting off.
