Route Thru Adirondacks

I am planning a trip to Newfoundland and want to visit Lake Placid, NY and Vermont on the trip north. I am assuming New York State Highway 3 and 86 from Watertown to Lake Placid is basically a winding 2 lane road thru Adironack State Park. Can someone confirm or tell me more about the road?

I can confirm about 3. It is as you say. 86? I don't know. It's been a while since I've been on it so I don't know it's condition but I remember it having nice scenes along the way.
Enjoy.

It has been a long time since we did that trip.. Before Tana in a 32ft 5th wheel... We had no problem with that route... We then took Hwy 2 thru Vermont and NH.... Beautiful. Don't forget to stop at Ben and Jerry's and Cabot Cheese in VT.

Tim and Susan,

We made that trip a year or so ago in the BUS pulling a TOAD. We took basically the same route and Hwy 3 from WaterTown to Tupper Lake. There is a county park in Tupper Lake at Little Wolf Lake. They were surprised to see my 40 footer, but it fit with no problems. I did tell them ahead of time that I would like a pull through, etc.,

Anyhow, Hwy 3, and all the roads we traveled were great. NY did a good job up in that area. Of course it has been a little over a year and things change.

When we left Tupper we took Hwy 30 South. Another good scenic ride. We had no problems. You've been on a lot tighter and a lot worse roads than you will ever see when traveling through the Adirondacks. The roads were well maintained.

Tupper Lake is 30 miles from Lake placid.

Happy trails.

Edited: Little Wolf Park was $25 or $30 a night if I remember correctly. Lake Placid was higher. When we took 30S (28 also) to I-87, at Albany we took Hwy-7 over to NH. That road was good also.
