Thought I'd pass this on.
After wrestling with the idea of keeping our bikes on top of our yet to be purchased 2017 GMC Sierra SLT or welding a bike hitch to the rear of our 2013 3750FL, we have opted to purchase these folding bicyles:

We went to the Camping World near us in Berkley, MA and rode them. Three steps to set up and break down. Shimodo gears. While we probably wouldn't want to ride cross-country treks with them, they were quite comfortable and the larger wheel size is big (literally).
Since we are really only looking for something to ride around flat Sanibel Island in FL, these might work well. I'm thinking that like most things, the advancements in the functionality and quality have improved. I'll try to remember to update this post after we do our southern winter expedition.
