Tonneau cover

We are looking for a replacement tonneau cover for our 2019 Ram 3500 8’ bed. Needs to work with 5 th wheel hitch. Prefer not to have the Velcro type roll up.
Currently we have a mopar factory installed cover.
Thx

I like my American roll up black aluminum tonneau cover https://www.truckcoversusa.com/american-roll-cover/. I can pull it out to cover the bed area behind the fifth wheel hitch when towing and covers the hitch cleanly when not towing.

I have the bakflip MX4 on a 3500 8’ bed and really like it. The last section stays flat while towing.

There are several hard roll up cover brands that will work. I used a Pace Edwards Full Metal Jackrabbit cover. Locked every 12 inches or so. I could pull it back near the hitch when towing, or all the way back to the tailgate when not towing. And lockable.

I absolutely love my Gatortrax MX series roll up cover. Aluminum slats, 500lb rating, lockable at any position, and easy installation.

Flipback for me. 4 panels on my 8 foot 1 inch bed. Got the Flip Back when the truck was just 1 week old. That was 8 years ago. The Flip Back is still holding up very well after all this time. Replaced one broken clip that holds the panels down when they are open and had to add a couple screws where small piece of plastic trim broke away and the pull wire wasn't riding in its track right. Other than that, it's worked very, very well for me.

On the old truck I had the flip back style cover. When I got this truck in 09 I went with the Roll & Lock aluminum slat roll up cover. It's fine but the canister the top rolls up in takes up a lot of space in the bed. If and when I change, I'm going back to the flip back style.

BakFlip for me. I've had it now for 10 years (going on 11) on 3 different trucks (Ram) and I don't want anything else.

I've looked at several of these and like some of them. I currently have a Retrax Pro aluminum cover. Paid around $2,000 for it in 2013 when I bought the truck. Don't waste your money on them. It has leaked since day one on the sides and in the middle of each slat. The powder coat finish is dull and ugly. I have had the rails replaced twice under warranty but it still leaks. I wouldn't recommend that cover to anyone. If I didn't need a way to lock the bed, I would have trashed it years ago.

Bakflip MX4 for us. Lockable and supports up to 300 lbs and has rain channels to keep out the rain. I used it for a work platform to install our solar panels on the roof of our RV.

I've really been considering the MX4. Do you have any trouble seeing when you hitch up?
I have read of people not being able to see the king pin and hitch.

I cannot see the hitch so with the tonneau pulled just behind the hitch I line up the king pin with the tonneau cover lock in the center of it...........works like a charm.

When life hands you lemons, make lemonade.
I am tall enough that I could easily see my hitch out the back window, so no problem.

MX4 bakflip on a crew cab, I can't see the hitch anyways. I bought an extra camera for my system and mounted it on the bakflip cover, Now I can see and line up the RV easily.

On my Chevy crew cab, I can't see inside the bed from the drivers seat either, even without the Flip Back. I do use the mirror on the fifth wheel. I placed a piece of black electrical tape right in the middle of the back window of the truck. I placed a piece of white tape on the King Pin, right in the very middle. I placed a piece of tape on the truck bed floor, right in the middle.

When backing up to hitch the fifth wheel, I look in my rear-view mirror and simply turn the wheel until all 3 of these "lines" pieces of tape, are in a straight line. Using the mirror on the trailer, I can see the bed of the truck. In addition, I added a bubble level across my King Pin. When looking in the rear view mirror of the truck, the middle "tab" on the Flip Back cover is exactly the same length as the bubble. Also, the bubble has the middle marker too. When all of these things are aligned straight, I know I'm spot on for hitching. I can see the mirror on the trailer pointing toward the King Pin and the floor. When the King Pin gets with an inch or two of the hitch (flat round thingie), I always get out, check the height and then back up and connect.

The Flip Back actually helps align everything into a straight line. No need to turn my head around, I can't see anything over the back seat anyway.

Now, if that mirror was not on the trailer, I think I'd be much more handicapped when hitching. So long story short, the Flip Back also helps me hitch, even though I absolutely cannot see the bed of the truck from the drivers seat.

Glad I am not the only one that cannot see the hitch in the bed of a crew cab long bed truck with a high back front seat.....feeling a little more normal now.

With using a gooseball for my Reese Goosebox hitch, I use two magnetized alignment balls to guide me. I place one centered about 8" in front of the ball in the bed and the other one centered to the front of the Goosebox. If I didn't have that alignment tool, it would be near impossible to align the truck and trailer up. they even come with an LED light for hitching up at night. Purchased through Etrailer.

love my Extang Solid fold. Going strong for 8 years and on my second truck.
I like that I can walk on it and it's easier to handle than the roll up's . Not to mention its light than those.
