I have a new F350 but probably can not answer many of your questions as I don't have many miles on the truck and haven't pulled the Monty as yet. Plan to in about two weeks. If there is anything I can help you with I will be glad to try.

Thanks for the responses. One thing I want to know is about the level of DEF consumption and the approximate cost of the stuff. I would like to know which gear ratio you are using and approximate real mileage both towing and not towing, highway and town or mixed driving.
I am admittedly paranoid about dealers. A recommendation for within an area from south Dallas to north Houston and west to Bryan/College Station would be appreciated.
No hostility intended, but I am only interested in the Ford F350. If you are in love with something else, that's great, but my request for info is very narrow.

Stiles, we forgot to talk about DEF, I have 17,000 mi on my F350 about 14,000 pulling. I use 1 gal for every 1000 mi. the gauge lets you know when you are under 1/2 full and that means 2 1/2 gal. best buy so far O'Reilly auto parts, comes in 2 1/2 gal jug, bought yesterday for $11.99 + tax $.99 =12.98

Just ordered our 2011 F350 Super Duty Lariat 6.7 LTR, 4X4, CCab today. Now we have to wait 10 weeks. It's going to be a long wait.

Keep us posted on the status of your order. Mine started on 14 Feb, I finally got a VIN # after 2 weeks. Dealer doesn't seem to have status, I've asked several times what checkpoints to expect. I was told 6-8 weeks, my Monty delivery is 4/11 exactly 8 weeks after the order. Agree, is a long wait ...

I'll be watching your delivery dates closely Gentlemen. I'm getting ready to order my F350 Dually King Cab. My thinking is to allow 12 weeks. I'll be flying in to South Florida to pick it up, then drive it back home. Hopefully if I order March 15th I can pick it up June 15th. Congradulations to both on the new TV!

Just sent you a PM. As far as the DEF, under normal it will last you until your next oil change. As stated above it will warn you when you get to 1/2 a tank. Towing it will use a little more. About 20 bucks for 2 and 1/2 gallons at the dealer.

Has anyone heard of any problems with the new FORD 6.7 diesel?
It's been out now for about a year and was wondering if it had any bugs to work out? Usually I'd give a new engine about two years to see how it does once folks start putting some miles on them.

We sell the PM-27-J for $19.59 a 2 1/2 gallon jug. The tank is supposedly a 5 gallon tank and as someone else said should last you until your first oil change. Make sure that your dealer fills the tank up, not partially full.

The wait is over. Took delivery of the new TV last night. Initial order 2/14, delivery 4/4. Once I got the vin and actual delivery dates from the dealer they held true. Life is good, it was worth the wait .

Congratulations!! Can’t wait for ours to come in. I also received the VIN and was told the deliver would be on 4/11 to WA, and then to the dealer in 2 to 3 days after…so 4/14. But then I read that Ford Kentucky plant was closing for a week due to lack of parts and paint due to the tragedy in Japan. So I emailed my salesman who stated “The truck had been ordered and is being built, everything will be fine”. So here we wait for next week when we “should” be taking delivery. Have fun with your new truck, and now start learning all the new electronics these new rigs come with.

I might be able to help a little here. We just returned from our spring break vacation. We live in Everett, WA and spent a week at Steamboat rock in Eastern Washington. There and back towing its about 450 miles (depending on the route you take). We have a 2011 F350 SRW, 6.7L, 355 Electronic locking axle, Lariat, Crew Cab. At the end of this journey it has about 4100 miles on it. This was our first decent tow.
On the way out, as Stevens Pass was closed we went I90 over the mountains. Over the whole tow out we achieved 10.4 mpg. Compared to our previous V10 gas which would have got about 6-7mpg I was pleased with this. It was also considerably quieter than the old V10, because it was able to keep the revs much lower than the gas engine. We got over Snoqualmie pass only dropping from 6th gear to 5th gear, to keep up 60mph. BTW - we travel on the freeway at between 60 and 65 mpg - no faster.
On the return journey we went through Stevens Pass. Its a little shorter route but not as easy as major freeway driving. Still achieved 10.5mpg. Have to say I was hoping for 11 to 12. But perhaps with summer fuel and a little more run in time things will improve.
Overall - its one awesome powerful truck. Very comfortable and plenty of power for our Montana MOuntaineer.

I was hoping for better than 10 MPG out of the new 2011 PSD, that’s what we are currently getting with our 2006 F350 SRW towing the 5er over Tiger summit and Snoqualmie pass. But like you say we may see better GPM with the summer blend. Are you using an additive to boost the Cetane rating? I was told by my Ford service tech to use it for each tank fill. That may help get the MPG up to 11.
So how was Steamboat Rock SP? Kind of cold this time of year, my wife and I love to go over there in the summer. Thanks for the report on your new TV. Hopefully we will take delivery of our rig next week.

I have not been using any additive, partly because I read somewhere that it was best to let the engine run-in without any additives. I have considered it, as I have heard others say the cetane rating is not that high in the ultra low sulphur diesil being sold today. Lets hope more milage and summer blend gets us over 11. I also wonder if the 3.31 axle ratio would help get me up a little more in the mpg. The engine is very poweful and I think it could handle our 5er with the 3.31 - you could not get it at the time we order however with the electronic locking axle on the 3.31.
I was not using the Tow/Haul mode all the time, the manual says you only really need it if you are going up or down a lot of hills. So when on the flater roads/freeway I switched if off in the hopes of greater fuel milage. Have to say here that I found the shifting/engine breaking of the Super Duty to be very helpful and worked fine for me. I know there has been a lot of discussion and comparision to the Chevy on this point - it worked fine for me.
It was our first visit to Steamboat Rock, loved the campgound (full hook up 50amps :-)). Spacious and not very busy (clearly at this time of year). Was cold overnight, but we had a few really nice days, blue skies and a couple of over cast ones. Sadly the road north from the campground (SR151) was closed for rock work for the whole week we were there which made getting to Electric City/Grand Coulee a rather long drive south and then back north again.
Very scenic - saw lots of raptors. Climbed Steamboat Rock twice, wonderful view from the top, although the climb was a little scarey in places especially for our kids.
Still - great to get away from work and spend some quality family time. Good camping. Looking forward to mroe this summer.
We will go to Moses Lake in July so will see what MPG we get for that trip. Should definately be summer blend by then.

ExPatNW is right, the cetane rating is not high enough in the ultra low sulphur diesel being sold today. Notice they don't post the Cetane rating of diesel like they do the Octane rating in gas. I they don't have to post it for diesel, but if they did you would find it to be below what the manufacture suggests.
