Would like to use my farm tractor to. I’ve my 5th wheel. Any recommendations for a hitch that would fit a 3 point attachment
Thanks

Ron--Our dealership, Leach Camper Sales in Council Bluffs, IA has a tractor they use to move the campers around and if I'm not mistaken it is on a three point hitch system. I will check the next time I'm over there and see what it looks like or where they got it. PM me your cell phone number and I can send you pictures of the set up when I get there. It should be later this week or next week since my unit is in the shop for repairs.

You should have at least a 50 horse tractor. My 40 horse JD wont handle my 9400 pound High Country. It would pick it up but to actually move it wouldn’t be safe.

What is the 3 pt lift weight rating of your tractor? I would think it would take a very large tractor to lift 3,000+ lbs on the 3 pt hitch.

Something like This?

or Something like this?

or A different type of forum thread?

or Same question on a tractor forum, here.

Doing a Google search on Fifth Wheel 3 point trailer mover returns multiple hits from multiple companies. But it seems a lot of them are set up for Goose Neck hitches. Perhaps some of these companies have a fifth wheel variation. Here's what I'm talking about: Click here.

(and by the way, I've done more Google searching about fifth wheel 3 point hitches and ran into several forums in addition to the ones I called out above. I find it interesting that on every one of those forums, after the poster asks this question, the next post is always, "Can your tractor lift it. If it can lift it, are you sure you can pull it?" Looks like the tractor related forums have the same question as the RV forums.)

My little 40 horse will lift over 2000 pounds. A 50 horse should go over 3000 easily. What you haft to worry about is the front getting lite.

thanks for the information - as you might have guessed I just become an 5th wheel owner and didn't consider how much weight I was going to put on the tractor. Spec sheet says 2360. I have a smallish tractor - 25 horse Kobota. I know the bucket can only lift 1,000 pounds. I only need move the 5th out of the way from some constuction and was hoping the tractor would be a simple solution. You folks may have saved me from flipping the tractor backwards onto the 5th wheel. i will look for another solution -
Thanks!

You are right. You would be in grave danger trying to move your camper with a 3000 pound tractor. I’m certainly glad you are not going to try.

I wouldn't even think of trying to move our rig with our Kubota BX2380. A larger tractor and maybe even a dolly under the pin box to support the weight that could be pulled with the tractor may be an option. This might be an option provide an idea how to fabricate a dolly to connect to the tractor.

Our neighbor has a 140 horse tractor that stays on our place a lot. It will move your camper but a 20 to 40 horse tractor just isn’t enough. If I was going to move my camper with my 40 horse tractor I would take out a large life insurance policy first.

Out of curiosity I looked at the John Deere 5 series tractors.
The 5055E, 59 hp tractor has a rear lift capacity of 3,192 lbs. That would be marginal for the larger Monte’s.
The next larger 5065E 70 hp has a lift capacity of 5,620 lbs.

Bill I didn’t know you could get a 5E tractor with 59 horsepower. I thought they started at 70 horsepower. If you had the rear tires filled with fluid it would, should be fine to move your camper.
Our neighbor had a 120 horsepower 5E tractor that had a problem with the computer that Deere couldn’t fix in 5 years so he finally traded it.

Those numbers came from the JD web site. 30 hp JD is the largest I ever had.
