F-350 weight

We've been trying to determine which IL Driver's License we will need to have a Montana 3400 or Big Sky 340. Keystone is great about providing weights, but Ford is not so accommodating. We've contacted Ford and they say ask the dealers. We've asked the dealers and they say "depends on what you have on it". We tell them exactly what we want: F-350 (probably King Ranch), crew cab, Dual RW, 4WD, long bed, Diesel, but they still hem and haw. Can anybody, who has a similar truck, give us a "rough" estimate of how much their truck weighs? We know exact weight will depend on other variables, but just a general weight so we can make some plans would be helpful. Thanks, Sue C

Our F350 long bed loaded is the same as Steves. We carry firewood, toolbox and a ladder in the bed also and full of diesel. We do not have duallys but have the 18" tires all around.

You've gotten some good information from trucks in use...here's how to do it with a new truck, with only factory options on it:

Pick out a truck on the lot that is equipped as you want yours to be...
- From the sticker on the driver's door, get the GVWR.
- From the sticker on the rear door driver's side (Tire and Loading Information), get the max cargo allowed.
- Subtract the cargo allowed from the GVWR, the answer is the empty weight of the truck.

One word of caution...do not use the weight they put on the title/statement of origin/etc...it is always too light.

We just took delivery on our 2007 Ford F-350 DRW Diesel Super Cab and I searched around and found a web link for the 2005 Model Year, placing the weight of our vehicle at approximately 6400 lbs -- when I have the opportunity I will go to a scale and check it

Ray--as others have advised, look at the pillar on the driver's side door of your truck--you will see a sticker which says that the passengers and cargo of your truck should not exceed XXXXX. Subtract that number from the GVWR shown on the invoice for your truck and you will know what Ford is identifying as the actual weight of your truck. Then compare it to what you get from the truck scale and see how accurate Ford was in pegging the weight of your truck. I'll bet that the weight is well above the 6400# figure you found on the internet. By comparison, my 2007 F350 SRW crew cab LB diesel weighs 7701#. I suspect your weight is close to mine--I'm a crew cab to your super cab, but you are DRW to my SRW LB.

Sue, our '06 about what you are looking at weighed 8550 with the hitch installed, and the tank full of diesel fuel. I have the DRW, King Ranch 4x4, and 4:10 gears. It pulls our front living room Montana anywhere we want to go.

Most internet weights are for the best case scenario (from the manufacturer's perspective)...this weight is probably for the smallest gasser V8 Ford puts in a dually. My guess would be that a dually diesel will be at least 1000 heavier than 6400.

Thanks so much for the great information. The Montana Forum always seems to come up with the answers. Not only do we have a rough idea to work from, we also know how to get the actual info off the truck and of course to compare it to actual weight. We're getting closer and closer to ordering. Thanks, again, Sue C

You will want to be licensed for the max. that the truck/trailer combo can carry (thier own weight included) in order to be legal. While a few parameters are missing from your post, the max GCWR for 2007's like you want is between 23,000 lbs and 26,000 lbs(depending on rear gear ratio). You are talking IL Drivers license and I do not know how they are rated. Here in MO we can pull RVs on our standard drivers license, but have to license the truck to cover any GCWR we may take to the road with. I will be getting a Mountanieer 303RLD/F-250 in the spring and plan to license to 24,000Lb (500# over the GCWR for that truck). Hope this helps some.

The Ford Superduty is a very heavy truck indeed. My 05 F350 CC LB SRW 4x4 has a V10 gas engine which is between 400 to 500 pounds lighter than the diesel engine and my truck with me in it on a gov't scale is 7700 pounds. That is with my hitch on and my tank full. I weigh 185. Ford's new higher GVWR were not all gain. They added 300 pounds of weight to the truck to get the higher GVWR. I have an 11200 GVWR with SRW but you only get that with 18" wheels and tires that are rated at 3640 pounds of capacity.

Good point. Ford's are extremely heavy. A 3/4 ton Ford PSD with a GVWR of 10000 has only about 100 more cargo capacity than a 3/4 Chevy D/A with a GVWR of 9200.

Is the licensing based on the truck's actual weight or its GVWR? I've seen both. Or maybe the weight on the title?

I have a lot of extra weight in mine. The title weight is something like 6900 pounds or thereabouts. Maybe 6700. But actual scaled weight is 8160. That's with a full tank of diesel, both of us onboard with lots of gear in the back of our crew cab, a very full and heavy steel crossbed toolbox with two large steel and loaded toolboxes inside along with lots of other things, the FW hitch and slider, rhino lining, etc. Mine is an F250 crewcab single rear wheel.
