Good tires

So much bad news about tires comes to the forum. I thought I might give a good report. The BF Goodrich tires on my F350 have been performing well for over 50,000 miles. The Goodyear G614 tires on the Montana sat for nine months at the same location. We finally moved to a new RV park a week ago. When I checked the tires in the process of hooking up, they had lost 2 psi over that time. That change could easily be charged off to an ambient temperature differential. After having four tread separation blowouts on earlier tires, I am quite pleased with these results.

I am also quite pleased with the Pressure Pro tire monitoring system. Being able to monitor the tire pressures without having to measure at each tire with a gauge (a little air is lost each time you do it) is a real plus. I have mine hard wired into an upfitter switch, so I have no dangling wires. Bruce Lenhardt graciously helped me with the wiring.

Stiles, glad to hear the report, especially on the G614's. I hope to have many years of worry free travelling. As you know, I have had many problems with the Chinese tires. The Pressure Pro sure saves alot of time when it comes to checking pressures. As I have said before, it has saved my bacon several times. Thanks for sharing.....

Hey Stiles - what model of BF Goodrich did are you using? I was recently in S. Oregon and tried to get the Goodrich 'tA commercials' but was traveling and no one had them in stock. My son uses them on his dually and recommended them highly. I finally had to buy Michelins. Kinda spendy but after my long trip towing the Monty back to Alaska last week I can say "so far no problems with them."

Dan,

They are the OEM tires on my F350 dually. I will have to go out tomorrow and take a look.

Just for the info of all hands . . my 2010 F350 dually has the B.F. Goodrich "rugged Trail T/A" tire in a LT245/75R17.
I dunno how well they'll hold up - only have 8000 miles on them so far, but they have a good "feel" to them when loaded . . and will rattle your teeth with the air pressure up when unloaded. Since I don't use this beast for anything but pulling the Monty I guess I can live with that.

We also have nothing but good to say about Bridgestone Duravis tires. I believe that before one buys any tire they should contact LonnieB and get his advice. You'll find that he'll give you good information.

Ditto what Orv said. Bridgestone Duravis and LonnieB a great combination!

Everything I have seen regarding Maxxis seems to indicate that they are a good tire provided they have the weight capacity you need.

Ron, Being not that far from San Antonio, I would look into different tires. You should be able to find a Goodyear dealer in town or go to Sam's club and check out the Goodyear G614 RST. A G rated tire and much heavier than most. Many who have them are quite happy with them. Be careful of sticker shock though.....

I used bridgestone duravis tires and had chunks the size of BB's come out of the tread on the drive tires when hauling the monte. My last set was Nitto Dura Grapplers, and I'll likely buy them again.

How much air pressure are you running in your Goodyear 614 RST tires?

Lynwood,
Don't know about others, but I run between 100-105 psi on our 614's. On longer trips where we are fully loaded, I bump it up to 105 psi. The rest of the year they are set at 100 psi. Goodyear.com has load inflation tables that you can consult to see what pressure you should be at.

What about Michelin LT 235/85/16E for my 2955RL? Any problems running this tire?
