Looking at new F250 2011 ,comment
So with all the rebates and cash back and using a X plan I am looking at a 2011 F250. They tell me the MPG will go up but how high towing. I have a 2006 with a 6.0 and get from 9.6 to 11.0 towing ,it depends on mt foot, if I keep it at 62 I do great , will the 2011 do better or is it a waste of time, I have 84400 miles and look at another 4 or 5 years I hope towing so its now or never. Trucks are not cheep but then if I run this unit to 175000 miles how much will I put into it. I hate repaires and break downs. I have had put in now 2 turbos and 1 computer fuel board at no cost but time broke down on the rd..Yes I would have to add air bags as I have now on my F 250 which is no big deal but I donot waNT A DULLY OR A 8' BOX AS IT TAKES A AIRPORT TO TURN AROUND IN , I like the king ranch as it has all the nice things ;;; sailer

Should check for overall length of the new trucks. They might be a little longer than your 06. If you notch any more it'll be in your kitchen. Don't think Sharon would like that. Of course you could always put some plants on the back bumper.

If they offer the same rebates and such on the F350 SRW, go ahead and get one. The difference in invoice between the F250 and F350 is less than $1000 and you will not need air bags.
Around here they are advertising 2011 Superdutys at $10,000 - $11,000 off MSRP which puts them right at or just under $50,000 depending on model and options.

Regarding the turning radius, I hear this is one of the biggest improvements. Apparently in the 2011, they have improved this so much, it's the best one right now. So you'll need a new reason not to get the long bed, like, it's the long bed and you want a truck about 2 ft shorter.
In '06 I went with an F-250 because of rebates but I ended up too light on the rear end and gross weight, then had to spend some of the rebate money to upgrade to the F-350 and wheels/tires. If I had it to do over again, I'd go with the 1-ton out the shoot for my Montana. A new Montana is even heavier.
I don't know if the newer 2011 have better tow numbers but make sure you don't hurt yourself there.
Congrats on the new truck opportunity!

Sailer, a question; you mention the X plan. I used one of those when I bought my 08 350. When I went to look at '11 350's a couple of months ago, I was told no rebates available, and no X plan since I am now retired. Are you retired, and if so does your former employer still allow you to buy on the X plan? Mayhaps I should contact my old bosses...

Check out http://www.thedieselstop.com/forums/f149/
And on the X Plan, if you hold over 100 shares of Ford stock, you can get an X plan pin.

The crew cab Ford trucks from 2000 to 2011 are all about the same length 261 to 263 inches. I call mine a 5 passenger school bus. The KR is a very nice truck. Mine was the nicest I was ever in until I drove a 2011. I don't think you will see much difference in fuel mileage. Ford's new reverse flow engines are more efficient but they ain't magic.
Just for fun I checked the invoice for my 2000 F250. The total price was $29210 invoice was $25596. It was a standard cab long box XL. The Diesel engine was $4600 invoice $3910 aluminum wheels $385 invoice $328. Air was an option, $805 invoice $684. It had 235 HP and 500 pound feet of torque. I sold it in 2004 for $17000.

washley1,
I bought a brand new 2010 F-350 dually with all options available without going to the King Ranch. I am retired from R.J. Reynolds and bought the truck on the X-plan with no hassles whatever.
I did, however sell the Ford and replace it with a 2011 GMC 3500 dually 'cause, IMO, among other personal preferences, it turns and rides so much better.

Thanks guys I'll keep that in mind for my next truck. I went ahead and bought the premium ESP for my 08, so I guess I'll have it a while, but I sure did like that new F350! Only two draw backs. On my 08, there is a fold away cargo platform under the rear seat, and I love it. I have been able to safely haul a few things there that I did not want in the bed. In addition, when we take the dog with us, it is a perfect height platform to put her bed on so she can either sleep or watch the world go by. We have no use for the new under seat lock box, although I can see where many may want it. Also, the clothes hanger hooks in the new ones are against the rear window, so we could not hang our clothes bar across when we take stuff to and from storage before and after a trip. (But boy, all that new electronic stuff on the dash makes up for some of that!!)
