Treasure or Trash
Several Years ago, I served as director of a retirement community. My observations at that time lead to the writing of a poem (not rhyme) about the progession of the aging process. Some may find it depressing. Others may find it confusing. It is just what I saw and felt. I ran across it again while sorting out trash from treasure as we ready to go full time.
Aging
Another drop slips from lifes cup
Softly falling away unnoticed
Silent, tiny, absorbed
Excised without pain
Time is anesthetic
Bright faces through clouded eyes
Muffled ears, sharing missed
A phrase once eloquently quoted
Memory, jigsaw - pieces missing
Time's a cruel surgeon
High school grad with future aglow
Young father with nestled newborn
Yesterday's newborn suckles her babe
"Grampa, Grammy, see my doll!"
Time's a streaking meteor
Clay outer man is breaking, broken
Grieving, sorrow for vigor lost
Spring-fed inner man drinks renewal
Surging hope springs forth
Time, in Christ, brings life.

Wow, Stiles that is really good. And oh so true. I see it in my mother and father. I surely don't look forward to the day that I lose them. But most of all I can see there is a really sensitive side to you. That is so nice. You are a very special person to be able to see this and write a poem about it.

Great job Styles! I hope you saved that electronically somewhere, cause it is not trash, it is a treasure!
Carol
Must be some kind of lesson here, I typed Styles, not Stiles. HMMMMMMMM I was gonna edit it, then thought, nope, makes sense spelled either way!

What a great poem. It really describes life in a wonderful way. Having lost both of my parents and Paul's mother this is especially meaningful..Thanks for sharing.
