Smells like fish...

2018 3721RL Getting a real sour, foul smell when we run the exhaust fan in the bathroom throughout the coach. Is this the gray water tank? And how should I deal with it? We are full timers, never had this problem before.

If you look on the roof, you will probably note a tank vent very close to the vent. If the fan is exhausting air from the rv, it has to source that from somewhere which would mean pulling air from around the toilet seal, in through the exhaust port of the furnace, in from the basement area where the tanks are, or outside where it can be noted that others campers are leaving their tanks drains open and allowing the park sewer system to vent to the air. If you leave your grey tanks open, put a ptrap in the hose by having part of the hose lower than the park "hole in the ground" so that water can sit in it and seal the park system. It could be that you are pulling makeup air in past the shower drain, the sink drain, or from the basement area where a tank issue of some kind now exists.

We have had an occasional odor from our bathroom sink, and it is always some debris in the HepvO valve. We have one under one of the vanity sinks and the other is directly under the shower drain. For the shower one, I use a small bottle brush to carefully clean the membrane through the shower floor drain, but the one under the sink, I have to remove the valve to clean it. If the membrane in these valves does not close up tight, they will leak odors, even though they are a very good product. I only have to clean them maybe twice a year, and we full time.

Since the first time, on the old rig, that I tried to clean that valve and tore it we've used screens in the shower and the sink to catch the hair etc and haven't had to clean the valve since. Six years now. We also try to make sure there is a P trap in the sewer hose when we have the gray tanks open.

We're with Dick, have screens in each drain to catch hair and food particles. Go to a Flea market and you can buy a package of 3 sizes for a buck.
