Same here. Plus, many ST tires are speed rated for 65 max.

My truck likes 62-65 range for best fuel consumption, since I like not having to stop as often for diesel. I can get 13 to 16, if it gets to 68 drops to 9 to 11, plus we are retired in no hurry and I get to see more ... :-))

62 - 64. My trucks sweet spot about 1800 rpm. Slower it downshifts more often on hills. Faster fuel consumption goes up Run cruise control if traffic conditions allow

Well this is another one of those can of worm topics that makes a lot of folks reach for the popcorn.
My usual two cents worth of reply is:
DRIVE WITH THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC!!
As in use some common sense and get in a convoy with the professional truck drivers going along at a REASONABLE SPEED. That may be 55 or it could be 75 depending on conditions. Driving too fast or too slow are both dangerous!
Granted I give credit to those who drive within their own limits as long as they are willing to get out of the way of faster traffic. As in PLEASE USE THE CORRECT LANE! If you can't keep up with the rest of the oversized traffic at least don't cause road rage or hazardous congestion.
If everyone used common sense and went with the flow of traffic with a good space cushion in front of them and used the proper lanes we would see a lot fewer accidents for sure. For certain a little courtesy would go a long way and certainly reduce road rage! And if everyone maintained their rigs properly and knew their limitations even better (as in having a little more truck than you actually need for a safety cushion--popping second bag of popcorn)......

California posted limit for trailers or anything towing anything (includes Class A's with toad) is 55. Nanny state.

I try to stay around 62 to 65 mph when we was driving to Vegas on the open road I did went 70 mph.

60 - 62 mph, unless I'm in California where the limit is 55... In CA, I drop it down to 58 - 60. I've got Sailuns that are well within their load limit. With an Air Ride Pin Box, the ride is very smooth and comfortable. If the road surface is excessively bumpy (like a lot of CA) I drop the speed down, sometimes as low as 50 mph.

Once during my trucking days a guy asked me how fast the Peterbilt I was in at the time would go. When I told him I didn't know he asked why not. I just told him "the speedometer only registers to 85 so how much is an inch and a half past 85?"!

This reminds me of a friend. He has a Cat powered diesel pusher MH. He came from Rathburn Id to the Super Shoot at Canton Oh. I ask Tom how fast will that thing run. He said don’t know but we came across South Dakota at over a hundred. He had a jet boat that would jump up 10 foot water falls on the Snake River.

Usually 65-70 as long as speed limit permits, but I have pulled it alot faster. I'm a firm believer in staying within your comfort zone.

When I travel into CA and the limit is 65 mph on a two lane road and it's relatively easy driving (not mountain or curvy roads), I'll travel with traffic at 65-68. CA's speed differential for towing/multi axle setups is a bad idea. I can't tell you how many times I've seen near misses (head-on) with people attempting to pass the slower vehicles.

Usually my speed is 60-65 max, way more enjoyable. On our tow up to Cortez from Gallup on 491...with signed limit of 65 in a lot of spots...I found that towing above 45 mph resulted in the old porpoise effect. The road had black tire marks at everyone of the bad areas north of shiprock. Probably from semis that found the road less than enjoyable. I towed at 40 and let people driving cars pass as they felt like it.

I tow at 60, except in states where the tow speed is 55, then I go 55. Cruise control 99% of the time.

I've learned that at 63mph I get the best mileage, haven't had tire issues, feel safer if I need to stop suddenly. And I can also enjoy the scenery too. But just my opinion!
