Onan 5500 Gen Problems

All of a sudden when using the generator certain appliances and plug outlets won't work...??? (microwave, ceiling fan, bedroom outlets...both A/Cs) Anyone know what would cause this?

Have you checked the breakers on the generator ? There is a 30amp and a 20 amp.

It sounds like one leg doesn't have 120 volts. Either the generator isn't producing power, doubtful, or you gave a bad connection somewhere between the generator and the fuse box. Start at the fuse box with a multimeter and work back towards the generator.

I agree that there should probably be two hot legs, each with a breaker. Check for one of them being tripped. Each leg should go to one side of your panel. Depending on which model generator you have you could have what they list as a 30 amp and 20 amp circuits or two 30 amp legs that are actually only around 22-23 amp circuits. I think it is rated at 44 1/2 or 45 total amps.

Also check the transfer switch. One leg may not be powered. I installed a jumper to power the non powered leg. I have progressive transfer switch, thats what the instruction said to do.
