Bedroom Closet Clothes Rod
We are getting ready to take our 1st extended trip and I was wondering if anyone has ever had any issues with the clothes rod in the bedroom closet. Do I need to try and reinforce it or should I just ask my wife nicely not to take too many clothes. If I need to reinforce it, any tips would be appreciated.

No problems with ours, we hang a fair amount of clothes ,coats etc.

We have never had any problems with ours and have traveled with a pretty full closet. As to the two options you offered I would reinforce the rod. Jim

Yup,
Last year on the way to the Q, the rod snapped in half. I went to a hardware store and bought a 3/4 galvanized steel pipe, cut to legnth. Not pretty, but functional!

If you don't reinforce it and it falls, it will be your fault. If you reinforce it and nothing happens, nobody will be the wiser and no blame will be cast. Sounds like a simple solution to me!

Wise words! Actually, I lucked out on this one...She, who must be obeyed, opened the closet door and said "*?!*?!, I must have over loaded the rod!"
Making no comment (a first for me), I just headed out to the hardware store!

We had ours come down a couple time so I cut a piece of 1 1/2 pvc to length, notched one end and placed it under the rod middle of the rod. No problems since in several years and thousands of miles

I must defend my good name. Ken doesn't quite have the story straight. Yes, I shamefully admit, I uttered an expletive. I did not admit to overpacking nor did Ken head to the hardware store without a word. I maintain the closet rod malfunction was due solely to shoddy workmanship. Keystone, if you are reading the, it has been my only complaint about our Montana to date!! ; )

The closet rod is ok for short trips and the "campers" among us, but the full timers or long trip folks, forget it. Hollow aluminum and plastic end holders won't hold fifty pounds or more of clothes no matter what. After ours caved in I bought a standard wood clothes rod, pounded the existing brackets on it at the right intervals and drilled holes and added screws, replaced the plastic end holders with metal, and reinstalled it. Joyce also took the opportunity to add another 20# of winter clothes. Many bumpy roads and a couple of ditches later it's still on there.

Ours gave out last summer on a long trip. I think the rod was a 1/2" hollow tube. And the center brcket had srcews in to the paneling with no real strenght.
Went to hardware store and got a heavier rod and stronger brackets.
Not brave enough to say anything about the amout of clothing the DW brings with her.

I put a center support rod anchored into the floor as ours was sagging badly. That solved the problem.

What we did was put (I think it was) a 1/2" or 3/4" steel pipe inside the aluminum pipe and put it back together, no more problems.

When we set out last summer for our 4 month trip, I guarantee our closet rod was overloaded. However, it went without a single mishap! Wait...maybe I should have kept my mouth shut!!

When our rod collapsed, I replaced it with a galvanized electrical conduit- No problems to date- JMHO- Don

I don't understand the 3/4 galvanized steel pipe? What happened to the traditional broom or mop handle, and the aftermath of, "Honey do you know where the mop is" I have camped many years, and I always thought that was a standard fix-er-upper method of repair. I must be way behind the times. Actually when we got our Monty I was not happy with the rod and added two additional hanging brackets from above even before we moved into it.
