Propane Tank Hold Down Straps
Has anyone had trouble with the hold down staps not locking. The first time I had to fill the propane tank on the door side it would not snap down to the lock position. Now the opposite door side will not lock either. It appears as though the straps aren't long enough. Can you buy longer straps?
I have checked and made sure the tanks were as far back against the wall of the tank compartment and still can't get the tanks to lock. Right now the staps are around the tank but they are not in the lock position. I always make sure the compartment doors are latched and so far the tanks seem to be staying in position when we travel. I have a 2012 Montans 3100RLS.
I have checked and had some other RV'ers look at it and I don't think its a problem with the tanks or their postion. I think the tank straps are to short. I have some other issues with the trailer that I will have to resolve with the dealer when we get home. We have been on the road since May. Thanks for the tips.
Our Montana has three screws holding the tank strap. I might try removing one of the screws. I'll let you know if that helps. Thanks again to all.
I was able to lock the strap by removing one of the self tapping screws. The two outside screws on the tank wall were about 4 inches apart. The middle screw was only an inch apart from one of the sides. By using only the two screws that were an inch apart I was able to gain enough additional slack in the strap so it would lock.

When I have had the problem, it was always due to the improper placement of the tank. As you mentioned, they have to be all the way back, but they also have to be centered on the straps. Try wiggling the tanks back and forth and see if the strap clearance changes at the clasp, that will tell you if they are improperly positioned.

What Bingo said, plus make absolutely sure that something isn't in the way. I had mud daubers build nests behind both my tanks this summer. When I pulled the tanks I then had to clean the mud balls off the shelf before I could get them back in right.

make sure the locking clip is going the right way.if it flips over it pops off. the straps are all standard for 30# tanks also make sure the strap where it is hooked to the back side is in position.

Like above, tank all the way back. And make sure the clip is aligned straight with the strap. I have had some trouble with mine in the past, but I was always able to get them latched after pushing that tank back against the back wall and making sure the strap/clip was straight.

Found a replacment at a RV Dealer in Fl.Rv World of Nocomis FL

IMO the strap is a bit short. We bent the hold down and it would not lock down.The strap could have been maybe a 1/2 inch longer.

If you're still having problems, check the strap mounting. On our Montana the strap was fastened with two self tapping screws and I moved one just a little closer to the other and reinstalled (intalled 40 pound tanks) so the strap would latch around the new tanks. Only takes just a little bit.

I had one of the straps break. I had a strap I used as a temp hold until I got to CW to get a replacement. Easy process. Hardest thing was getting the tank out and in! Good luck. Dennis

The clamp has a series of holes on each side- These holes can be used to make the strap longer or shorter- Moving the "ears" toward the end of the clamp will help in locking the clamp- JMHO- Don

In our case, any time it appeared that the straps were too short, a little maneuvering of the propane bottle correctly seated it so that the straps worked. We've never "come up short" (no pun intended).
