Ford did this back in the early part of 98 when they launched the "new" Superduty. They were all 99 trucks and later became dubbed 99.5 when the second run came out. Don't believe the move to the 6.4 was all motivated by emmissions.
Duramax and Cummins did not come out with a new engine to meet the new emmissions. Go back up to the link I posted above and read the real motivation. The Ford 6.0 will never go down as a successful engine. It is an engine very few people want to keep after warranty runs out. IMHO and the outspoken opinion of many people with much more engine skills than I have it is a LEMON, pure and simple.
I bought a 1995 PSD , the terrific 7.3 came out late in 94 and was and still is a winner. Ford can launch a successful new PSD, I sure hope the 6.4 enjoys a long reliable life. In most big truck areas, the word is out on the 6.0 and 2003 and 2004 model trucks are very hard to sell. Newer models are a little better but will suffer the reputation of the earlier lemons. As more of these 6.0s come off warranty and cost their owners obscene amounts of money, the word will spread and the resale value of the 6.0 will drop big time. My advice, if you can get a decent trade on your 6.0 for a new Duramax, Cummins , or 6.4 Ford..........GO FOR IT !

Thanks Bill, I'm glad I learned of the 6.0 probs now. Know what to stay away from anyway. I think my 6.1 Duramax will be around awhile. Just turned 20,000 miles on it so I gues it really isn't broke in yet.

Happy Trails to all.

Rich, yes most are options, my sheet shows the 6.4 at $6895.00, auto trans at $1490.00. Iam sure your dealer will come through for you, the prices were posted last week, according to my dealer. Those are retail prices not dealer invoice.

Bill..That is interesting.. Got a E mail from our dealer in Ohio that says that yes you can order them but that Ford has not released the pricing on the F-350 SD with the 6.4 Diesel but will do so within a month.. The 6895 For the 6.4 is less than expected. Based on the x plan price fot the 07 F-350 with the 6.0 I can almost guess what the X plan will be for the 08.At this point we are just curious..need to see how they perform once they hit the street And the most important factor..do we really need the diesel.

Wrenchtraveller Cummins is coming out wiht a new engine for the Dodge. I think it is 6.7L or something near that. Duramax I read did not come out with a new engine but is making major modifications to the old one to meet the emissions standards. I would have to search to find that information but it was a reliable source.

I'm going to give the 6.4 a year before I jump in. My 6.0 has been great, I have a friend that has problems with his. I have 50,000 on mine with only a EGR valve replacement, it seems like some people have lots of problems, others have no problems. Ford can't afford to have another nightmare engine, if there are problems I will go with a Duramax. I love the Dodge engine but they are behind in the transmission and built in brake controller, GM is coming out with a brake controller on their trucks.

Congratulations, Bill! I look forward to your reports, especially on that new engine. We'll come close to that 100k mile warranty mark this summer and will be in the market. This 6.0 has been a good, very strong engine but there have been just enough problems with the 6.0 that I'm leery of running as many miles as we do without a warranty. I'm also leery about a first year engine so will look at all brands. I really like what I'm seeing about the 2008 SuperDuty but want to make sure the engine will be a good one before I buy in.

New 08 Super Duty's begin production next week. They closed production of prior Super-duty model wk of Christmas 06. New models are one of the first 08 US model vehicles out.

I am a corporate purchasing manager for a Construction firm with projects all over the US. Our guys are kind of tough on our company vehicles and put alot of miles on them, F250's have held up amazingly well. I just ordered 18 new 08 Superduty's, order enters next week (dont worry wont interfere with your order, they are all F250 gassers). We plan on ordering more 2nd qtr as well. The new Superduty's have alot of improvements, really cool interiors, new dash & gages, a unique front end & hood treatment. Warranty is longer too.
Ford fleet manager's are very excited about this new model.

The new Ford diesel is suppose to be one of the best. I still love my new to me 04 Duramax though. I just put new larger custom wheels, tires, lift kit on it (not too high) , looks great, hopefully will keep me happy a year or two since I now have to purchase a new 5th wheel (our first fiver), I am a working guy only one new big toy a year or two is allowed! Will wait for a possible new diesel Ford once the dust settles! and I recoup from the fiver purchase.

Production is not the problem..Yes one can be ordered But we have not yet found a Ford dealer that can give you a price list for the 08 350 SD 6.4 Diesel.???? Today..right now..

UPDATE.. Here is the 08 F-350 equipped as close as I could get it to my 05 but with the 6.4 diesel. At MSVRP of 47,715 I would Say the Ford Family plan price would be @42/43K less any incentive, unknown at this time.If the 6.4 meets expectations we will have this truck this spring.Window Sticker 2008 Ford F-350

I was close in my estimate. Not much room to dicker with the Family plan.I think it is 2% over the Actual, real, dealer invoice price.
I think we can handle that price. IF the 6.4 lives up to the PR???

Our dealer just told us to come in now and they would do a total breakdown of what we want and the prices. He says 12-16 week delivery though, not 6 weeks. We're gonna go talk this weekend. Sue C
