Mountaineer Owners??

I don't see many Montana Mountaineer owners on the site. Are there any out there?

Yes there are many. You can get a better idea by checking out the Owner's Rigs pages at MontanaOwners.com If you would care to have your rig added send me a picture and I'll do the rest.

The reason that I ask is the salesman said everything was the same except some of the special details (fireplace, laundry chute, etc.). Just wanted to verify that. Also, since I pick it up Thursday and take it out for the first time Saturday, I'd love to know what issues others have had so I can look out for them on my FW. I'm sure it will not be as many problems as my Dutchmen had.

we now have a mountaineer and love it. we had a Four Winds before and I can tell you that there is real difference between the two--night and day. we looked at the mountaineer and Montana and decided for us at this time the mountaineer was a little less expensive and was a good one for us. The montana had a little more "eye candy" as SteveR calls it.

Hey Craig, we have a 06 319 BHD Mountaineer. There are quite a few of us here. What model are you getting?

Craig, Your Mountaineer is everything my 04 Montana was on the day it was new. What I am sayin is the Mountaineer gets nearly all the upgrades that the Montana gets but just a little bit later. In some cases this is good as the Montana line becomes the guinea pig and works out the bugs before the Mountaineer gets it.
One thing you'll want to have with you on Thursday is a PDI (PreDelivery Inspection) and go over that rig with a fine tooth come before you even do any paperwork. You can find PDI checklists HERE. I particularly like the first one but any will do.

Did you buy the Mountaineer at Sun Coast RV in Pinellas Park and if so who was your salesperson?

I did get it from Suncoast in PP. Negotiated with Jim Fisher (mgr) and actually did the paperwork with Rick Bell. Both seem to be outstanding guys. Is that where you got yours from.

Know them both very well. I did a short stint as an RV salesman with Sun Coast PP last year. Jim and I got along real well but I can't say the same about Rick. Rick was a retired car salesman and he still used some of those hi-pressure "car sales" tactics. As a matter of fact initially Rick was my tutor until I had a talk with Jim. As Rick only did your paperwork, you may not have experienced his hi-pressure ways. I really can't say anything bad about Sun Coast. Their service dept seems to be on par with other dealers although their parts dept needs a little help. I would not hesitate buying my next Monty from them but I just wouldn't deal with Rick.

I have the 05 328RLS Mountaineer and while camping right after we got it we had the oportunity to look at a Montana that was a few years old and walked away feeling like we made an excellent choice in getting the Mountaineer. We saved a considerable ammount of money and maintained a high level of quality. My wife and I both love "Rosie" Name comes from the Rosewood color scheme.
Our trim level was at least as good as the older Montana. I am told the frame is the same the difference between the Montana and the Mountaineer is the trim level. Ie: the eye candy. There are some options that are not available to the Mountaineer like 50 amp. Washer Drier, and fireplace. Fortunately except for the 50 amp were options I din not care for anyway.
As for the 50 AMP service, I found a way around that. I have the second air conditioner and on 30 Amp cannot use but one at a time. I rewired the second air conditioner on its own circut that comes out to a plug I can use a heavy extension cord on the almost always available 20 amp outlet. AT NO EXTRA COST!
With all that said, if I were to live in the trailer I believe I would get the Mountana. Countertops and cabnitry seem a bit more durable. Not to mention the options that make living in the unit more feasible.

Trukdoc - the 2005 fivers have 50 AMP standard. I agree about the eye candy....I really didn't want the fireplace, and the laundry chute and garbage chute were nice on the Montana 3200rk but not worth the extra $$ to me. One of the concerns that I have is that my 344RET has 6 lug, 16 inch rims while the Montana has 8 lug. Do you know if it's the same axle, just with a different hub...or is it a lesser axle?

We have a 05 Mountaineer (298RLS) and love it. It had a few quirks but they were resolved by the dealer. Wouldn't trade it for anything else right now.

Hi Craig,

As others have said, biggest difference between Montana and Mountianeer Edition Montana are options availability. Trim, fireplace, prep for Washer/Dryer, Chrome wheels, etc. I also believe you can upgrade the suspension on the Montana, get more slides, etc. The Mountianeer seems more geared toward families with kids in tow if you compare the floor plans (bunk houses, closed bathrooms). It is a bit like a Chevy vs. Buick. Same basic rigs with the Buick offering more options and features.

Good luck with the new 5th. You are going to love it.. Tim
