Return from Bavaria
Back from the European holiday. The six hundred year-old castle is not to be confused with a modern palace such as a Montana. It was interesting and engaging. Baron Manfred Von Crailsheim and his wife, Lela, were very gracious hosts. Manfred (as he asked to be called) is a physician and nearing retirement. Lela was a school teacher recently retired.
This was a defensive castle, not a palace. Accommodations were comfortable but not luxurious. We were taken inside the defensive walls that surrounded the castle, where mummies were discovered a couple of hundred years ago. They are still there in their caskets.
Meals in Germany were too good, especially the breads and the salads, so artistically presented and the dressings were a delight to the palate.
It was a great 45th Anniversary trip. We toured old walled cities, Bavarian palaces, and Neu Schwanstein (the model for Disney's fantasy castle) built by Ludwig II. Glad are we did it, but there is too much to see in America to go back.

Congratulations on your Anniversary and trip. It sounds lovely. I just love Castles. You are right about America, there is so much to see. I hope we get to see just a fraction of what we want to see in the future.

Welcome back from your European anniversary holiday! Sounds like you had a great experience. Isn't it wonderful that every day in our Monty's is a holiday???

Thanks for the update. My paternal ancestors came from neck of the world, and I would love to see it sometime in the future, perhaps when Marsha and I both retire!
Like you said, however, there is also the beauty of the US of A to behold until then!

Thanks for sharing your trip. Having lived five years in Germany I can understand your enjoyment. Yes I was very happy to return to America.

Sounds like you had a great trip! Other than Mexico and Canada, I've been to Britain once. My son-in-law is from Wales and I accompanied him and my daughter on one of their trips to see his family. They all laughed at me because I wanted to see so many castles and we stopped at quite a few. My ancestors come from Germany though and someday I think I would like to go there, but hubby is also of the mindset that there is too much to see here in the U.S. of A. to travel abroad. Thanks for sharing your experience.

Wait a minute -- salads?? What did I miss??? Germans now make great salads??? Do tell!!!
I am German-born and -raised; came to the US of A on 1/1/81, have been back several times since, and my parents still live there. I remember "salads" being that afterthought of two leaves of wilted green, a slice of cucumber and a quarter of a hothouse tomato!
Glad you enjoyed your trip!! And, yes, even I agree, there is soooo much to see here that I keep making my (aging) parents catch up with us as we full-time the country...
Happy Travels!

Yup, they have discovered salads and are real good at it, at least in Burgoberbach, Ansbach and Sommersdorf.
