Leaving for Alaska May 15

After many years of planning we are leaving for Alaska May 15th 2013. Just wondering if any other forum members are heading there?

We will be traveling across Highway 2 to Shelby, MT, then heading north to Dawson Creek. I think we will drive on the average 200 to 250 miles, then stop for 2 or 3 days and repeat this till we hit Homer, AK.

Coming back we will drive the Cassiar down to Glacier National Park, then back home.

I think the wife is as excited as I am!

Are you going to visit Tom Bodett, the spokesman for Motel 6? He lives in Homer!

Have a great trip!

Congratulations on your planned trip. Beth and I want to make this trip one day as well. It sounds like you have a great plan and are taking your time to "stop and smell the roses" along the way. Enjoy. I'm a bit green with envy right now.

I am dark green with envy and I mean it in the best way. That sounds like a great trip. I hope DW is excited because she gets to help with the driving.

We are leaving from the Denver area on May 26th. We will be taking about 3-weeks to get to Alaska via the Alaska Hwy.; 7-weeks in Alaska; and 3-weeks returning through Canada via Cassiar Hwy.

We are counting the days. I have our travel itinerary, be glad to email it to you if you like. Would love to meet you along the way.

Be warned - If you plan to stop at the (only) rv campground south of TOK, AK. If it is raining much, half the campground gets closed. We went thru there and pulled in at about 2 or 3pm. Pretty much pouring rain. The wouldn't let anyone into half the CG, as a few hours before someone parked there needed a tow truck to get out!!!! And of course, the other half of the CG was full.
Just giving you some information.....
Oh, we went around July 1, so I would guess you will be in even worse weather on the way up.
Also, I am the weather jinx!! It rained about every day in Alaska (30 days). We never really saw the top of any mountain until the day we left. My curse has a long history too (back in Iowa).
Good luck.
