Congratulations, Don and Georgia!!! I dearly love our Dodge and how it tows our Montana. Overall towing performance on hills and flats is about the same as the other brands but this Cummins just doesn't seem to work hard. No screaming at high rpm climbing big hills. It just downshifts once with rpm climbing to about 2700 for about two seconds, then drops to around 2000 and just climbs on up the hill, upshifting back up to top gear on the way up, almost always.

You'll love that builtin exhaust brake and the transmission. It's awesome. I've driven one of the best, the Ford TorqShift, for a few years. That one was touted by one of the big magazines as being smarter than the Allison at when to shift and when not to, etc. And this Dodge six speed automatic is even smarter. You'll love that tow/haul. Use it down mountain grades, even when not towing.

You'll like the mpg, too. My towing mileage is about the same as with my Ford 6.0L diesel but my solo mileage is far superior to what my Ford got.

This Dodge has 43,000 on it now. It would have a couple thousand more miles but with the diesel prices we brought the car (30+ mpg) to Texas with us this time.

Enjoy the new truck. Let me know when you take delivery. Remember to keep your foot out of it, though. You don't want to wear out those rear tires too quickly. Rubber aint cheap these days.

Don, I have no clue what that article is talking about. I've never heard that nor experienced it. And mine is a 2007.Looks to me like a tort lawyer trying to drum up some class action business that just isn't there. Like the Chevy mentioned above, the Dodge will go into limp mode to save the engine if it detects a damaging situation. I think the Fords have the same feature. I've never experienced it with any of my trucks, though.

By the way, Don.... now that you're about to be a Dodge diesel owner, we need to teach you how to spell "Cummins." No "g".

Took me a while to get that one right as well Don. I noticed the g was missing when I was trying to find the Cummins service center for my generator.

Hey, I'm a Cummins owner (Cummins-Onan) but drive a Ford!

Good job, Don. Next you'll have to learn to be light on the throttle. That Cummins will burn up a set of tires if you're not careful.

Boy wouldn't that be fun. smokin tires.
But I dont think the DRW will allow that, too much rubber on the ground.

I suspect about 3 months max Steve, I'll just have to wait. it will also give me time to spit shine her inside and out. for the sale of my 96 Ford. I will miss the old horse not a bit of trouble from her, just the usual stuff that needs repare. whoever gets her will get a well maintained truck.

OK the maiden trip with the new truck, It looks ok on the clearance between the bed and the Monty at the closest point it is 8 inches at the tailgate and 8-1/2 at the pin. Thats OK because when the DW loads that puppy up it should make it level.

It is realy something with the exost brake, and Tow Haul working together. as for pulling it seems OK from a dead stop a little stronger than the old TV, I'll have to get it on a hill that I normally have to go up to get out of LA, then I'll let you know what I think of the new TV.

Happy for you and the new Ram
Dont forget to put at least 1000 miles on the new truck before you start pulling, thats what the dealer told me, along with others on the forum.

Can't imagine why anybody would send you that, it is for the 2007 Dodge. If you go here you can read up on the Dodge trucks.

It was not a big deal. My 2007 now has 44,500 miles on it with about 18,000 of that towing and I'm loving it. I made a good choice. You did, too.

Don, have you tried that hill yet? Be sure to note in the manual the first 500 miles of TOWING you are not to exceed 50 mph. That's for breakin of the rear end. Man, that's a long, slow 500 miles. I got to about 490 when I said that's enough and bumped up the speed.

The manual for my 2007 says 500 miles on the engine before towing, then the first 500 towing miles at no higher than 50 mph to breakin the rearend. Not 1000 as your dealer said. I went with the 500.

Also, don't switch to synthetic before 30,000 miles. That's in the manual, too. They say if you go synthetic too soon the engine won't break in. That's a good enough ad for synthetic for me. Too little friction (i.e wear and tear) on the engine for it to break in. First oil change after 30,000 I went to Rotella T synthetic for diesel.

Like other new trucks, as it gains miles it will get better and better, stronger and stronger.
