Ed's Comments on 2006 GMC
Ed wants me to tell all of you how much he loves our TV (Brutus). The 6 speed Allison is awesome. Except for the little trouble we had at the beginning of the trip when a fuel injector went out, Brutus performed beautifully on our 3,000+ trip. We averaged about 12.5 MPG towing and 19-20 solo on highways. At one time when we were not in the mountains, we got 13 MPG towing. Ed was very wary of the lack of compassion diesels have for going downhill but the Allison is very smart and a touch of the brake downshifts and we went down as easily as we went up. I drove the truck solo some when Ed was sick and did some mountain driving and I love it. I drove the upper loop of Yellowstone which has horrible roads, narrow, winding, rough but I made it fine. The new mirrors help a lot because you can see where your tires are and some of the roads were just wide enough for the dually with no room to spare. All through the trip we talked about how wonderful it was to have Doug help us when Brutus was getting fixed. So thanks again Doug for being a true friend and fellow MOCer.
Happy trails.............................

Those mileage figures look great. I have a 2007 D/A Silverado dually cc due in sometime in Aug...looking forward to it.

I am a Ford guy but I know that the Duramax Allison is an awesome combination and the big Montanas like that dually. Enjoy.

Hey Sue!
You are my new hero for Driving the big truck through Yellowstone! I know just how bad those roads are. There is always road construction going on, traffic galore and bear jams that are enough to make you crazy. I avoid the park like the plague between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Awesome Job!
Steve works in Mammoth everyday. He still enjoys getting out in the park as much he can.
Glad you made it home safe,
hope to see you soon,
tara and steve

I to have durmax with the allison tow 3400RL, it pulls the mountains of colorado with no problems. While in Az on a trip flat highway got over 14 mpg with the monty, mostly in colorado between 12-13, will be in montana in september, we will see what we get there.

Sue and Ed, we are glad to see that you had a great trip. I am glad that we were able to help you out when Brutus was having its little problem. Hope to see you both again in April.

Sue and Ed,
You will probably find out that the more miles you drive Brutus, the better he will get. My '05 SRW 3500 has almost 26000 on him now and he gets better each week that goes by. I have no clue when he will be completely broke in.
With the numbers you are getting for mileage, it looks like yours is doing pretty good.

Sue and Ed, I'm glad to hear Brutus is behaving. I know there was some concern whether the dealer had truly fixed the problem. I'm glad that concern is in the past.
