water heater won't shut off

I bought a new 2006 Mountaineer and every time I plug in the shore power the water heater goes on. There is a switch in the kitchen to turn the heater on and off, but if I hit the off button the heater still stays on until the water gets up to temperture. I asked the dealer about it and they said that that is the way it's supposed to be... the heater goes on when the trailer is pluged in. Is that correct?

There's a 110v switch on the water heater tank that's accessed from the outside. If it's on the WH will fire up on AC as soon as you plug in. The inside switch controls the igniter on propane. Make sure the 110v switch is off if the WH is empty and you're on shore power, otherwise you'll fry the element.

In addition to the switch on the hot water heater there is a 15 amp breaker in the breaker panel that you can use to isolate the 110V side of the hot water heater. Make sure that the hot water heater has water in it before turning on 110V or it will burn the element.
