The ball trick is a thought and it doesn't look like a hand rail for a freight train. The doggie might not like being without his toy. My unit is in storage. When it comes out I'm going to make a stab at another idea. Not because of a real need but for the challenge.

I've got a prototype using the internal mechanism and a 1/4" rod to connect the two latches. I had to weld a tab on the existing aluminum cam to get a short "lever" for the rod assembly to actuate. It also required cutting a square hole in the inside cover for the rod to pass. I've got one latch done. I need to duplicate it on the other one and see how it works.

I finished the linkage and it works. If you're wondering what the foam roller in the center of the linkage rod is for, it prevents the rod from slapping the inside of the door when the door strikes the frame.

I made extra parts to do the rest of the doors (four more). They'll go quicker since I have the bugs worked out.
